The pope thinks that there are important political issues in addition to gay marriage, abortion and euthanasia.

yep, there are a lot of issues besides those
there is also just a general question of competence and trustworthiness

but abortion and gay marriage ARE issues that a lot of Catholics ignore....
the Pope said those are not the only two issues, he did not say to ignore those issues

@Mountain_Girl406 the guy you were asking about the Pope is a Lutheran
so yeah, he is not supporting any pope
Ok, can't see religious affiliations from my phone so I just assumed he was Catholic by virtue of posting here. Apologies

Best leave local politics to local bishops.
And, thank God, new bishops who are appointed in the future will be more in line with the Pope's values--more intent on the "thou shalts" than the "thou shalt nots." This does not mean that they will ignore the "thou shalt nots" but their emphasis will be on positivity and goodness, more on solidarity and less on legalism.

These two issues are generally ignored because the primary decisions are made by the courts. I truly don't care all that much what the President wants to do with regard to abortion and gay marriage. The courts will make those decisions.

Did you see that Fr. Barron was named one of the auxiliary Bishops of L.A.?

As i said - there is a difference between what Catholicism teaches with no uncertain terms.

The Tradition of the teachings allow for Just war, death penalty [which both can be debated by Catholics]. HOWEVER; There are no such teachings or doctrine regarding climates. Science is not and cannot be a part of the actual teachings and the Pope himself cannot change Tradition.

However; being he cannot change Tradition or the doctrines - we know [or should] that abortion, gay marriage, and euthanasia are integral teachings we must hold to - we are not to oppose under any circumstances.

The following are things that the Catholic Church has said about her hierarchy of teachings and the role of the Pope:

"Everything passes, only God remains. Indeed, kingdoms, peoples, cultures, nations, ideologies, powers have passed, but the Church, founded on Christ, notwithstanding the many storms and our many sins, remains ever faithful to the deposit of faith shown in service; for the Church does not belong to Popes, bishops, priests, nor the lay faithful; the Church in every moment belongs solely to Christ." - Pope Francis (emphasis added)

"It is the mission of the Magisterium to affirm the definitive character of the Covenant established by God through Christ with His People in a way which is consistent with the 'eschatological' nature of the event of Jesus Christ. It must protect God's People from the danger of deviations and confusion, guaranteeing them the objective possibility of professing the authentic faith free from error, at all times and in diverse situations. It follows that the sense and the weight of the Magisterium's authority are only intelligible in relation to the truth of Christian doctrine and the preaching of the true Word." - Donum Veritatis

"When comparing doctrines with one another, they should remember that in Catholic doctrine there exists a 'hierarchy' of truths, since they vary in their relation to the fundamental Christian faith." - Unitatis Redintegratio

"The Roman Pontiff and the bishops, in view of their office and the importance of the matter, by fitting means diligently strive to inquire properly into that revelation and to give apt expression to its contents; but a new public revelation they do not accept as pertaining to the divine deposit of faith." - Lumen Gentium, 25

"Let no Christian therefore, whether philosopher or theologian, embrace eagerly and lightly whatever novelty happens to be thought up from day to day, but rather let him weigh it with painstaking care and a balanced judgment, lest he lose or corrupt the truth he already has, with grave danger and damage to his faith." - Humani Generis
