The change, initiated by students, is intended to make the school more welcoming to those who feel their genders fall between male and female or who identify as completely different genders or no gender at all.

Just in case anyone thinks this was brought on by the liberal PC police.

The students came up with it all by themselves? Who teaches the students? Oh yeah, the government-run public school system (and Common Core standards).

Notice also the statement made in the article, "The petition said the change would “create a safer and more inclusive environment for all students.” Yeah, right! The Homecoming Court has been so dangerous up to this point! :sigh:

Another statement in the article sums it up pretty well, "“It’s really an experiment to think more progressively".

Yup. That's what your article states.

Who teaches the students? Oh yeah, the government-run public school system (and Common Core standards).

Do you have evidence that the teachers in the government-run public school system taught them this?

Do you have any evidence that common core standards teach that gender means nothing?

And parents, religious leaders/pastors and preachers, tv and radio personalities.... Quite a few people have influence over young minds.

Either way, unless you have evidence that the idea didn't come from the students themselves, your point is purely speculation and I have no reason to take your opinion over what the article (that you provided) plainly states.

The students go to that school, don't they? If school isn't for teaching, then what is it for?

It actually teaches that there are quite a few things that mean nothing anymore, and that everything can and should be redefined.

By its own words, the mission of Common Core is to solidify education power at the federal level, focus on social justice causes and promote a vision critical of America. However noble Common Core may sound, it’s but a host carrier for a radical agenda not uncommon to those who want to undermine the nation at its core.

I'll let you take the time to read it all for yourself: http://eagnews.org/the-birth-of-common-core/

Knowledge is the biggest threat to irrational beliefs. It makes sense that some people try to suppress it.

Apparently, it also teaches them that it's ok to force their views upon the rest of the school, which is apparently ok as long as it doesn't uphold any traditional values.

Yup! Like the belief that 2+2 can equal 5 if you want it to. Irrational people still believe it equals 4.

Your article states that the students signed a petition to have this change made. Isn't that democracy in action? Why would you take a stand against democracy?

And for what? To continue a ridiculous tradition of homecoming being exclusive to people who only identify as the traditional genders that Christianity deems correct?

To hell with tradition!

What a ridiculous war you are trying to wage.

Mathematics is not predicated on beliefs. No one "believes" 2+2 = 4. It is a logical deduction that any human being can plainly see. That you don't understand that suggests you probably didn't pay much attention in school.

Forcing would imply they are forcing others to be like them. This is not the case, it is simply accepting, that some people, are different.

My question wasn't vague.

I don't see anything in the link that suggests that common core teaches that gender doesn't matter. Is this school a common core school?

I'm not even a fan of common core and I think this is a rather paranoid assumption.

I just think it's interesting exactly who thinks that this is a form of "forcing beliefs on people".

QFT. Yep. As Helen Keller stated, "the highest result of education is tolerance." Kudos to the students at that school, and to the administration for respecting their wishes.

Actually I think it is technically a postulate, part of the definitions used in a particular set of math. When it comes to a
Common core teaches children to question things???! oh noes!

And in this case it seems students are questioning authority! Yea my generation did pass on something good!
