In John 3:1-7 is the discussion between Jesus and Nicodemus. Getting born again is discussed there and nowhere else. I see being born again reported to occur at salvation, at water baptism, at the laying on of hands and finally, the believer asking for the Spirit according to Luke 11:11-13.

Which is correct?

Being "born again" occurs at salvation when you repent of your SIN, and place your FAITH (enabled by the Holy Spirit) in the sacrifice of Jesus for your sins.

THAT is the point at which you are indwelled by the Holy Spirit, and are "Reborn Spiritually".

Acts 1
5 for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now."

Acts 2
38 Peter said to them, "Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Acts 5
32 And we are witnesses of these things; and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey Him."

I believe that the fruit of the Spirit is the sign of being born from above. It follows after the water baptism.

The fruit of the Spirit is a sign that we are born again. Baptism tells the world that we have chosen to become a Christian, but it doesn't actually save us. It has been best described as "An outward expression of an inward work of grace." It is an of obedience to Christ. It would be great if everyone get baptized immediately, but apparently, everyone doesn't see it that way.

When Peter and his companions gave their defence before the Council at Jerusalem after their visit to the Roman Centurion; their argument was not that the Centurion and his family and friends 'seemed nicer' after they were Born Again; as their defence was that they immediately began to pray in tongues, this is the best evidence for someone being filled with the Spirit.

As for a person displaying the fruit of the Spirit, this could sometimes take days, weeks or even months before their 'fruit' becomes unquestionably observable.

Should the life of a believer end there?

Yes, but eventually the first experience should end up with this. Don't you think?

This is only the very beginning; the first new day of their new birth in Christ through the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit.

Oh yes! We are each given the Holy Spirit as an eschatological down payment where the ability to pray in the Spirit precedes our new walk in Christ; it is something that begins on the day of the New Birth and only ends when we each stand before the Lord.

Yes, our responsible journey begins.

Prayer is our powerful tool, and we have the Holy Spirit to help us in this matter! :prayer:

I am taught that in this New Covenant we have to ask God for whatever we want to receive from Him (James 4:2b) including the baptism of the Holy Spirit (Luke 11:13). The reason is that God will not violate our free will and force us to receive from Him without our desiring it and asking for it. It is similar with salvation -- we have to ask Jesus to be our Savior. We see that Jesus doesn't save people that don't ask.

The Holy Spirit is God, and like Jesus, and we similarly invite Him to dwell in the temple we provide for Him. We apply the Blood of Christ to cleanse the temple we provide so that it is a fit dwelling place for the Holy Spirit to inhabit.
