Well, I can't say I have had any experience quite like that personally.

Could you explain the differences between the times you pray that this happens, and when it does not happen?

What is the manner of your prayer that seems to bring this about? Or is it simply random?

Are you typically praying alone when this happens, or with someone else. Is there something about the location or environment that seems to facilitate this in some way?

How do you feel when this happens, do you continue to pray, or do you shift into feeling this sensation and wondering about it?

Correct, I am skeptical of the experience, but I won't saythat this is always a false sign. I do believe that you can feel the spirit, but as to the tingling in the hands... not so sure that is a normal experience. I have not had that, although at one time I thought I was "slain" in the spirit a few times and got some funny laughs at church. Was fun. Would do it again. But doesn't seem to be in vogue right now at church :sorry:

And what is so odd about asking how many times this happens? Do you feel that hands tingling is a normal experience when in prayer?

I wouldn't call the hand thing typical thats just one of my idiosyncrasies. That could be a pinched nerve etc. I get it in prayer occasionally. In prayer asking for a filling of the spirit there can bea quickening or a feeling of a slight tingling with an inner peace. Its far mor noticeable being slain in the spirit, thats where something goes through you. that has only happened to me one time.

I have also noticed the go through me feeling being prayed for with hands on me.

That could be my mind creating it with wishful thinking, or could be really part of the spirit of a living God working supernaturally.

Or could be the devil as others stated. Take your pick. That was why I asked.

I believe In a living God and a living holy spirit that exists. I tend to believe the holy spirit can do things like that and is responsible for it mostly in times of welcoming from believers.

I thought your questions were sarcastic was why I said that, it did sound like disbelief on your part of course. You sounded like you have experienced it before by what you wrote.

Before I got saved, I used to look at people who have the Holy Spirit come on them powerfully or those who just enjoy the presence of God. I wondered what they were feeling and what was going on. I did not know, I would not have said anything in regards to the topic because I did not simply know.

Until I felt it. Until the Lord overshadowed me with His Glory and I felt His presence. The first time was so powerful, so different and I did fall back because in the presence of God, its hard to stand still. LIGHT feelings. PEACE...overwhelming peace....just PURE and LIQUID LOVE.

That is who He is. Please dont condemn the feelings, it is the Lord's and I will never ever wish it to go away. I will always crave it because I know what the feeling is. I still trust that when I dont feel it, HE is there. But when I feel it, I want it never to END. IT is pure JOY

I am fairly used to it as a reassurance of God with me. Its not like its an every day event, just occasional. If i manage to get my act together, be good and pray and follow Jesus like I should it might happen then in the close more spiritual times with God. I hope that makes sense. I sure am no super christian.

I think maybe we all experience something similar but it manifests differently in us all. I was just curious how you guys felt it. maybe instead of tingling I could have asked how does sensitivity to the holy spirits presence manifest in you?

Unfortunately for me, the effects of the Spirit were abused and people sought experiences, and not Jesus. The fruit of this "move of the Spirit" which for me was back in high school, was not positive in the end.

In 1993 or so, there was a sort of awakening of spiritual manefestations in the church in the USA as some might recall, youth would go on trips to churches where manefestations were more prevalent. Fore example: Brownsville revival - Rodney Howard Brown.....

These manefestations made people very excited, but they did not produce lasting change in the church. Although these manefestations have died down in many areas, they live on in various ministries, usually the "prophetic" type of ministry. Most of these ministries are run by apparent false prophets preaching subtle heresy.

So this is mainly why I am skeptical of the manefestations these days.

    1. My experiences were not real, though at the time I thought they were very strange and fascinating.
    2. They are tied to ministries which get a lot of attention and excitement but lead people into emotional frenzy rather than genuine faith and repentance. Almost never do these ministries convict of sin or preach the straight forward Gospel.
    3. They are tied to extreem ministries of the "prophtic" nature which can at times teach outright heresy concerning the worship of spirits, talking to the dead, or cause bazare things and even violent behavior in the church service.

So I don't want to tie what you have experienced to those things, but those are my concerns, I lay them out there just to be honest with everyone that these are my issues. It seems like you are very grouned in Jesus, and I thank you for bringing up this topic in very honest and open way. I hope you get all you can out of your prayer time.

I once visited a church in Tucson, Az. on a sunday night where several people were lined up in front of the Alter and the Pastor went down the line praying over each and every one of them. I was up there too and standing next to this young man who was perhaps 22 years old and 6'5" ; when the Pastor ever so gently touched his forehead, the guy went down fast and hard on his back ; I tried to reach out my arms to him to help break his fall but i missed him. He wasnt hurt by the backward fall, but immediately after it happened, I felt an incredible amount of Gods presence coupled with something as a warm blanket enfolding me all over my body. This lasted for about a minute or so. The two Singers on stage were beautifully singing the song : 'Surely the Presence of the Lord is in this Place' ..and i was totally stunned by the presence of God at that moment. I know i was standing there with my mouth wide open just taking the moment in. I then bent down to attend to the fella who was still lying on the floor beside me and he could not move any of his limbs for about 3-5 minutes and said he felt a surge of electricity flowing thru his entire body . After that incident, I had a much bolder witness for the Lord and a greater desire to serve him more completely starting the following day.

Are you saying you think the quickening of the Spirit will produce fruits of the spirit including real prophecy? Otherwise it is not really of the Spirit?

What is the "quickening" of the spirit - to you? A sensation?

And no, not that prophecy must be required, but that all spiritual gifts are for the edification of the church. No one comes under the power of the spirit except for the purpose of edifying the church (or in the case of tongues, for unbelievers)

In the case of a ministry accompanied by signs and wonders, that ministry must be accompanied by the fruits of the spirit - peace/love/joy/patience - and not simply just in the church service, but a lasting effect. A peaceful feeling at church is not "peace" (shalom). Holy laughing is not "joy", the pleasure of a sensation is not love. So in other words, if people's children are being more respectable, marriages healing, etc.... it is not the Holy Spirit. A year's worth of "revival" meetings where people come to the church to get a fascinating sensation is not a real revival. Proclaiming that you feel forviven and loved by God before the congregation and you have been healed of depression and you feel a lot better but yet you cannot get off your depression medication is not a real healing. .... /end rant.

I am not well versed in ecstatic feelings. For me it is a deep calm. As mentioned earlier the grace of God descending upon me like gentle rain upon a young flower. And the fruit of peace, presence and compassion. I have only had visions and signs. Agreed the fruit of the spirit's work in the soul is for edification: And for participating in our own salvation and the world at large, participating in the ministry of Christ as followers and servants.

Especially since I used to have a social anxiety disorder. But that is another story. Praise be to God.

I catch on to your questioning now you were checking I was involved in or influenced by people who emphasise this too much. i am just a normal guy at a modest local small pentecostal church with sensible teaching.

I find the christian walk a solo one in termes of seeking God and a communal one in terms of worshiping and serving. I am very suspicious of hype stuff in big churches and dont go along with it usually. Personally I read my bible and in it it says what to ask for and expect. I can do that privately and whatever eventuates from that does and I trust it comes from God.

I went through some profound trauma. I was diagnosed as clinically depressed. Anxiety goes with that. It is still a shared work in progress between the Lord and I.

thats awesome dave a really encouraging story. I had an experience a bit like that too, and I know its not explicitly mentioned in the bible, but like you afterward I felt compelled to serve with a passion. sure the feeling was ok at the time but I took that as gods seal on it.

I have to admit i get really dismayed at critical people declaring all such events such as this a faux ministry created by the devil. I woke up the next day feeling compelled to share the gospel. Since when does the devil want that?
