WASHINGTON - Breaking with President Bush, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist said Friday he now supports legislation to remove some of the administration's limitations on embryonic stem cell research.

Frist, an abortion opponent
who just last month said he did not support expanding federal financing of research on embryos, said his decision was consistent with both his experience as a physician and his anti-abortion stance.

"Now is the time to expand the president's policy because it's promising research, but it must be done in a way that is ethically considerate, that respects the dignity of human life," said Frist, who also is a heart and lung transplant surgeon.

Do we get to call him a flip-flopper? ;)

Politically, This is about as smart as Hilary's move toward the middle. The middle's not convinced and the ends get alienated.

But I am heartend that we might be able to actually do some good science.

I know I won't be voting for him. I questioned him before this. Before, he seemed weak to stand up against the liberals.

I had no idea that being against the liberals was the litmus test for this sort of thing.

I agree. I believe we need to move forward on stem cell research, and I don't care who jumps sides and gets behind it. The potential to end or reduce human suffering in so many areas, makes this research timely and necessary.

I don't call it flip-flopping. I call it being an intelligent person who can reconsider a position. I don't respect a politician who never changes any of his views. I am 39 years old now and if I had to be stuck with all of my views that I held when I was 20...YIKES.

The more important cconsideration is the reason why he is taking this stance. He has not abandoned his anti-abortion standing. But he has shown an ability to bend on some of the details.

If the liberals have a good idea then I will listen. So far, it's
-pro abortion
-pro gay marriage
-pro removal of God from law
-anti fixing broken social security
-support the new imminent domain ruling (at least the liberal Supreme Court judges)
-Hates the US military
-loves burning flags
-loves raising taxes
-etc.

How about pro environment? Pro workers rights? Healthcare for the poor? Do any of those resonate with you?

And BTW, we are not "pro abortion" and "pro gay marriage". We are pro Liberty. If you don't want to marry someone of the same sex, then don't. If you don't want to burn the American Flag, then don't.

And I do NOT support the eminent domain ruling.

Hates the US military? Which party consistently supports veterans? I'll give you one guess - it ain't the GOP.

This is a code name for communism. Yes, some will argue it's a socialist. No difference imo.
And BTW, we are not "pro abortion" and "pro gay marriage".
We are pro Liberty.
What about the child's liberty? He doesn't or can't have one?
If you don't want to marry someone of the same sex, then don't. If you don't want to burn the American Flag, then don't.
Good advice
And I do NOT support the eminent domain ruling.
No, but ALL the liberal Supreme Court justices supported it (including Nancy Pelosi). And ALL conservative Supreme Court justices against it.

How did you come to this conclusion?
