Decisive factor was concern for children - "two fathers, or two mothers" – "biologically neither real nor plausible"

PARIS, February 16, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A government commission set up at the request of the President of the French National Assembly has concluded that homosexual ‘marriage’ and adoption by homosexual couples, and medically assisted procreation for homosexual couples should not be permitted by law. The decisive factor to the report's conclusions, after an investigation of more than a year, was the commission’s decision to act “to affirm and protect children’s rights and the primacy of those rights over adults’ aspirations.”

LifeSite is NOT a credible news source

I agree, although it does seem that those of us who wish people would link to actually credible news sources are few, what with so many people linking to unknown sites that sound truthful because of their name. So many people forget that just because it's on the Internet doesn't make it true.

Or only about dissagreements?

Right now, sources, namely that the OP doesn't have a credible one and that no credible one can be found.

Then why does NOTHING that LifeSite runs EVER show up in a credible news source.

Forget that, why does NO other news source have this kind of information?

I can't find one other single source either...thanks for pointing this out.

Recently, there have been many threads started where the titles/and/or info has been proven to be either completely false or seriously twisted.

Based on the fact that France allowed Civil Unions in 2004 its highly unlikely that this story is true.

The story is true, homosexual marriage is not allowed in France, and will not be considered by lawmakers for a few years.

What the author 'forgot' to mention is that, since 1999, civil unions have been introduced, that enable same-sex couples to enjoy basically the same rights as married couples.

BTW, the report quoted in the OP called for complete equality between marriage and these civil unions.

So what we are talking about here is a technicality being spun as a macroscopic truth?

Kind of.
The main point of the report is that French law will not allow homosexual couples to adopt children.
Corollary to that, because ou lawmakers decided that only married couples can adopt, marriage will not be possible for homosexual people.
However, all the other social benefits granted to married couples are, or will be equally granted to same-sex partners.

What's important to consider, too, is that in France, adoption is not viewed as a right for adults. It is viewed as a right for a child to have a family. Our lawmakers decided that a homosexual couple doesn't meet their standard for 'a family'.

Actually, this report reflect the public opinion in France.
According to polls, my fellow countrymen would allow homosexual marriage, but oppose adoption by homosexual couples.

This opinion may change, in view of the examples from Belgium, The Netherlands and Spain, who allowed both same-sex marriage and adoption by same-sex couples.

Thank you kindly for the clarification and how sad for those bigots to make such a judgment. I grew up in a "traditional" home as an adopted child and it was pure hell.

I'm not disagreeing...but define credible. There is no "official" stamp that makes one news source valid over another. There is no such thing as a "journalism licence" unfortunately. ;) [IRONY]But you do have to be licenced to cut hair![/IRONY] Credibility is an ad-hoc affair in the media and that's just the way it is. Just check the sources and see if they are legit...that's about all we got with some sources!
