It seems the French people are standing for safety and security from Islamic “refugees” and terrorists that tried to install their sharia will on the people of France through corrupt Islamic supporting liberal courts.

Those awful courts supporting Liberty and freedom of religion, how dare they! I wholeheartedly agree religion must be banned, every single one!

Oh wait a minute that's not what you mean...

Your bigotry is noted.

Corrupt Islamic supporting liberal courts? The Conseil d'Etat? Hogwash. It seems nothing of the sort. What it seems is that the French judicial system has decided that women should be free (within the bounds of decency, I suspect) to wear what they want. This is surrendering to terrorism? Codswallop. It is protecting individual liberty.

Did I miss a post or two? Didn't anyone else even notice the headline of the link?

The courts held that Mayors could not create bans. Since when are mayors little kings ruling their own kingdom? If anything that kind of action is a mirror image or the worst areas under Muslim governance or no governance at all.

France's attempt to become a dictatorship sussssspended.
Good news. Banning a piece of swim wear because Muslim women typically wear it. Lord have mercy.
What did they do when this travesty was enforced? Make Muslim women expose their skin under threat of law?

This thing on the Burkini was an attempt by France to not to give in one more time to their demands ,but some find it funny . It is in fact another step downwards to a backward society especially for women . To have 'freedom long term, demands responsibilty , which is something France understands , but some here, don't . In most Moslem countries, they do not wear such extreme 'gear' ,but this is provocation to the West, whom they hate .

by ending the burkini ban?! hahahahahaha!
Christian, Muslim, atheist or whatever. You can always spot the right-wingers when they try to control women's bodies.
The most totalitarian people are left wingers , it's they that make most inappropriate contentography and child inappropriate contentography and made China ,USSR ,East Germany ,Germany- Hitler .
Most of Islam in Western countries vote LEFT .They voted in the present Socialist French government .

It's assimilation. More and more the ultra-conservative Islamic religious culture becomes very open in western nations. Bits and pieces of the big European picture coming together. Oh, let them be, its their culture! They're not hurting anyone.
But the political ideology of Islam that makes for such a thing as a burkini in the first place is apparent in the burkini design itself. Strict, full coverage, mandatory obedience under threat of corporal punishment and even death.
And the west that watches a burkini clad woman having to remove her top covering on her own burkini in that one news report here was I think an object lesson.

The west's culture and law made her remove her covering. Her culture and religious laws create the covering.
Now the court decides. It's OK for a strict religious culture , religious ideology, ultra-right wing with violence and capital punishment for non-compliance, to display in a free country. However, that strict , religious ultra right wing culture has rules of conduct within its legal tenets that pertain to how non-members are to behave, be treated, and be seen.

This is assimilation happening under French law. But this very strict religious culture, religious ideology, ultra-right wing with violence and capital punishment punishments for non-compliance isn't ecumenical. And it isn't inclusive. It is exclusive. It's tenets, this particular strict one, a fundamental one, teaches that the world should be converted, forced to serve, or die.
Assimilation ideology for the ultra-right wing immigrants is naive. It's giving the vein to the vampire.

If they're still under emergency law, how would lifting a burkini ban coincide with those implied constraints?

What a total tempest in a tea pot. It is interesting that this occurred on the same day that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police approved the use of an official hijab for use by female Muslim officers.

Creeping Sharia!!!

Of course the West has never had such restrictive swimwear! Oh Wait!

We actually had pretty much the same thing except both for men and women. This is from about 1910. It was rather different just a quarter of a century later!

If we can just stop the anti Muslim crowd I expect the change to proceed a bit faster for Muslims this time round.

I envy bigots. I really do. It must be liberating to have such an ignorant and simplistic view of the world and complex issues and to have 100% confidence that you are right, that you see the truth, and everyone else is wrong.

To know the truth will everyone else around you flounders about making observations, utilizing facts and data, struggling in complex arguments, and trying to construct a logical consistent thought pardigm that readily explains the complex socio-economic-political issues they face. Those fools, why bother with unnecessary pesky things like facts when you already know the truth...

Must be nice to see the Matrix code whenever else does not...

It's telling that neither side of the issue admits any kind of agency to the affected women. It's just "us undressing those women" versus "them dressing their women".

How about letting them decide for themselves what they wear? If you don't think muslim women are able to decide for themselves what they wear to the beach, you are treating them like little children or pets, yourself.

What should be done is support BOTH kinds of women, those that wear burkinis and those that were something else, provided that they need the help. They should be protected from vengefull husbands or family members that disapprove of western clothing, as well as people who decry them for wearing full-body swimwear.

Perhaps, but we aren't responsible for how they act so why bring them into the discussion?
tulc(is actually curious about that)

Well, if we're going to hand-wring this much over one instance of one silly law backfiring, then we should be focusing even more on challenging and reforming the outdated belief system that insists women be permanently covered up for the sake of "modesty".
