I could change it by setting up some kind of mental checkpoint for insensitivity, I suppose.
But should you?
I see straightforwardness as a virtue, even if it comes at the expense of "politeness", for which I have never seen a good practical definition in the first place. And I figure if I can make the decision not to be offended by other people expressing themselves honestly (even if I don't always succeed), then other people can (and should) do the same. And the end result would be a lot more honesty and a lot less game-playing.
