Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction -- James 1

This idea that everyone is on his own is an Americanism, not Christianity.

The idea that an adult is entitled to have everything he desires without working for it is also an Americanism, not Christianity.

2 Thessalonians 3:10
For even when we were with you, we gave you this command: If any one will not work, let him not eat. rsv
This woman is not an infirm/disabled widow. She is able-bodied and she is responsible to provide for her children.

"To visit the fatherless" does not mean that the church is monetarily responsible to provide everything for this woman and her children. If this woman is a member of a church, she should be a responsible parent and enroll her children in Sunday School and other activities so that they can have a male influence/visitation on their development in order for them to learn how to become responsible Christians and mature adults.

Every Christian's first responsibility is to provide for his/her own family and his/her own relatives.

1 Timothy 5:8
If any one does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his own family, he has disowned the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. rsv

To visit the fatherless does not mean that the church is to usurp the responsibilities of this able-bodied mother. This mother is responsible to work and provide for her own children. If she does not do this, she will have to account to God for her sin of omission. Every person has trials/tribulations in this life and her trial is that she will have to work hard to provide adequately for her children.

Acts 14:22
strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and saying that through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God.

That's a First World/Middle-class response.

I know of a Pakistani woman in the US who became a Christian and is now in hiding from both her husband and inlaws as well as her own family. Any of them will kill her--even in the US--for having converted.

What does your post mean to her? Is the church that was happy to accept her conversion not responsible for her well-being?

They tie up heavy, cumbersome loads and put them on other people's shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them -- Matthew 23

This is an entirely different situation than the one that was being discussed earlier.

Has this woman joined a church so that they are aware of her predicament? If she has, the church will indeed help her if it is a church that does the Word of God instead of just preaching it. However, the church cannot possibly protect her every minute of every day. They do not have the resources to do this.

The reality is that many Christians are martyred/murdered because of their faith. Yesterday, I read that thirty-one Catholic priests were murdered in Mexico from 2005-2015 and that more have been murdered this year, three in the last week alone. http://www.christiantoday.com/artic...d.in.mexico.third.killing.in.a.week/96354.htm

John 16:2
They will put you out of the synagogues; indeed, the hour is coming when whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God. rsv

Please tell us how you are helping this poor woman. She is your neighbor.

James 2:8
If you really fulfil the royal law, according to the scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you do well. rsv
