We chose to go to the normal 2D version - 24fps - as there were mixed reviews for the 48fps version.

The settings are beautiful - such as where Galadriel and Elrond are. My fave is Thorin, played superbly well by Richard Armitage. :)

I'd never heard of it, but I was reading about the making of the movie and apparently Peter Jackson decided to make a version where you have 48 frames per second instead of the traditional 24. Folk who reviewed it said it shows every last little thing clearly, like the rubber some actors have to pad out their noses is more obviously rubber and stuff like that. They say it may become the new way of things in movie production but it sounds as if there's some work to be done on it all yet, judging by some of the reviews. I remember they said that it would be good for people who like 3D, but who end up feeling queasy watching an actual 3D movie. I've never seen a 3D movie.
