Albert Einstein – the man who developed the theory of relativity and was thought so highly of that his name became synonymous with intelligence.

In this comical image he showed that even they smartest amongst us can have a lighter side.

He signed one of the original prints of this photo for the photographer – in 2009 it was sold at auction for £48,500.

This shocking image shows South Vietnamese police chief Nguyen Ngoc Loan executing Vietcong member Nguyen Van Lem in the street.

Although the photo has become synonymous with the horrors or war, the photographer, Eddie Adams, said he felt sorry for Nguyen Ngoc Loan as he felt the image ruined his life and the life of his family.

As tanks rolled into Tiananmen Square in Beijing to suppress protests, one man bravely stood in front of the column, stopping the entire might of the Chinese army.

Taken on June 5, 1989, the ‘tank man’ quickly became one of the most famous photos in the world.

The identity of the protester has never been confirmed.

The chief steward on board the Prinze Adelbert liner took the photo of the iceberg on the morning of the Titanic sinking.

Reports say he spotted a line of red paint along the bottom of the iceberg which experts believe show where it had made contact with Titanic.

This is what a young girl who was born in a Nazi concentration camp drew when she was asked to draw ‘home’.

Both her traumatised look and her inability to understand such a basic concept make this one of the most haunting photographs ever taken .

Black USA athlete Jesse Owens was credited with ‘single-handedly crushing Hitler’s myth of Aryan supremacy’ after winning several gold medals in the 1936 Berlin Olympics.

However, despite standing higher on the podium than his friend and competitor, German Luz Long (who was giving a Nazi salute), Owens was still shunned when he returned to the segregated society of 1930s America.

The headquarters of Mussolini’s Italian Fascist Party, 1934.

The building in the picture is Palazzo Braschi in Rome, the headquarters of the Fascist Party Federation (the local one, not the national Party headquarters). It was not always covered up like that; this set-up was displayed for the 1934 elections, in which Italians were called to vote either for or against the Fascist representatives list. The “SI SI…” lettering (meaning “Yes Yes…”) was propaganda for one of the two plebiscite elections held during the Fascist Regime, where electors didn’t vote for individual parties (there wasn’t any but the Fascist one), neither for single candidates, but just voted “Yes” or “No” to a single list of candidates presented by the Duce himself.

This is what Mussolini thought of himself:

And this is what the Italian people thought of Mussolini:

Speaking of Mussolini , do you notice any resemblance between these two ?

This one has really bothered me.

I wish I could have averted my eyes.

By the time of this photograph, AIDS might have been more widely understood, but people were still wary about how it was transmitted because it wasn’t widely understood by the general public at the time. Princess Diana was a very important figurehead in convincing people that merely touching AIDS victims was alright, and they wouldn’t die by shaking their hands. The princess was quoted as saying “HIV does not make people dangerous to know. You can shake their hands and give them a hug. Heaven knows they need it”. Diana would usually visit the ill or dying in hospices across the world in order to raise awareness for the diseases and compassion for those that were diseased.
