...I'm in a BBQ rib contest.

And I want to make a good showing.

I have a base I like to par boil the ribs in.

And I've got a brand-y new rub that I think is kick butt.

But....

How long do you par boil ribs for so that after the are grilled, they're perfect.

I tend to par boil too long and they end up more pulled than on the bone.

C'mon, I'm a nice guy,

help me here.

CC,

I would love to help, but here in the South where I am from par boiling ribs is an automatic DQ. Same goes for using Charcoal. Hardwood fires only. I know that is hardcore, but they take it pretty serious around and in Texas as well where I used to live.

I usually put them in the crock pot 4 to 6 hours depending on how many & type of meat. Afterwards, put your rub on them & slather them with bbq on the grill with wood chips for extra flavor. I've never par boiled them. *shrug*

CC,

WA has it about right 1 hour, slow boil. It ain't like your cooking pasta or you will over do it. Nice and easy for about 1 hour.

You using the full rack or babies?

The entry requirements call for a least 3 full racks. Pork only.

Or chicken

Its a different category.

I'm going for pork.

I'd go for the slow roast only but my best recipe calls boiling in a marinade and and a dry rub.

I don't think soaking is going to get the favor of the marinade in right .

If you are using full rack make sure you peel of the thin membrane on underside of the rack. It is real thin but if you don't take it off it is hard for the marinade or rub to penetrate.

Oh my God. See, now this is why I could never go vegan. I love BBQ too much.

And definitely remember to remove the thin membrane on the underside. If you don't, it won't marinade very well, and biting into that tough monstrosity after hours of painstaking cooking ruins the moment.
