Ellen G. White -- the Myth and the Truth
by Å. Kaspersen

11 -The Mormon connection

Documentation has been uncovered, showing James and Ellen White participating in extreme, fanatical movements in the years following the "great disappointment", and other documentation shows that Ellen White did not follow her own "heaven-sent" counsels, at the same time condemning others for not heeding them.

At this time the connection between Ellen White's early visions and experiences and Joseph Smith's ditto has been placed under the spotlight. And what has been discovered, is alarming from an adventist point of view.

It has been claimed that the adventist teaching on "the Investigative judgment" in fact has been derived from Joseph Smith. The Mormon prophet also claimed that the tower of Babel was built before the Flood. Ellen White probably borrowed this information from Smith when she put it into Spiritual Gifts - which says that the tower of Babel was built before the Flood (Vol. 3, p. 301). This of course is not in harmony with Scripture.

In his book Ellen G. White & Inspiration, Maurice Barnett says, after having compared Ellen White's first vision with the visions of William Foy (where the similarities are striking),

"Similar likenesses can be made between Ellen White and Joseph Smith of Mormonism. She also borrowed from Mormon standard works. Joseph Smith was killed in the Summer of 1844, bringing him more national attention right at the height of Millerite expectations. One researcher points out that Ellen White especially liked the book of Alma in the Book of Mormon." (Maurice Barnett, Ellen White & Inspiration, p. 41. Emphasis supplied.)

Researchers in the Mormon Church are beginning to get their eyes opened for these things, and are making their own research. These scholars have access to the mormon genealogies, and will probably come up with some amazing documentation showing the connection between the early Mormon Church and the early Adventist Church. They will document that several well known early adventist pioneers had close relations with well known mormon leaders.

There are many things adventists do not know about early adventism and their prophetess - information which now begins to come out of the closet. Maybe what we have been learning so far is just the tip of the iceberg.

The Seventh-Day Adventist Church is well aware that a bomb may detonate in the near future, and is making preparations by publishing books which they hope will soften the effects of the explosion. The Bible however says that all that have been hidden in darkness will be brought to light (1 Cor. 4:5), and this is happening these days. The amount of long hidden documentation on Ellen White and early adventism is increasing, and the Seventh-Day Adventist Church is unable to stem the tide other than denying and explaining away and blackmail people who are uncovering long hidden, embarassing documentation. When I say documentation, I do not mean the stereotyped, glossy pictures, but information which places both Ellen White and early adventism in a somewhat surprising new light.

I have only read the first two sections so far but...er...it is pretty dumb. The similarities are completely coincidental so far. Maybe it gets better. But pointing out that both said "I was born" etc. is kind of silly.

The passion and willful blindness in the ignorant rants against Sister White that the Subversives release in their propaganda war is truly astounding.

Prophecy is now fulfilled. As it is written, "There will be a hatred kindled against the testimonies which is satanic." Selected Messages Book 1 (1958), p. 48.

I know there is a rule about promoting personal websites on CF. Is Eugene a special exception or are the mods just sleeping?

NightEternal quoted the following in his OP:

They seemed to have based this on the following EGW quote:
Here is another EGW quote that clearly refutes their claim:

There is no specific prohibition against that now. This is the current spam rule:

As with many other things, the mods have a lot of discretion nowadays in determining what constitutes spam.

Joseph Smith definitely did not teach that the Tower of Babel preceded the flood. Such a claim would have directly contradicted the Book of Mormon.

If that is also true, then the credibility of this article is definitely not very good at all.

He is merely presenting an article he is not debating that this is true. It is time for you to stop assuming everyone's motives.

And just what might that be O Great Reader Of Innermost Motivations And Intentions?

On the other hand, forget it. Everytime you post something these days it's just more nonsense. I have better things to do then entertain anymore vomit from your keyboard.

How retarded would it be for me to claim this stuff is indisputable fact and my own personal opinion when I had never even heard of the EGW/Joseph Smith connection before?

Do us all a favor and get a grip.

Just for the record for everyone else, in spite of Honor's active imagination I had no agenda for this thread. I came across this information and it was new to me. I was merely asking if anyone else had heard of this and was trying to ascertain if it was valid or not.

But I think I already explained this to MVA:

Yeah, I've only seen a loose connection myself. At one point in time I even went looking for it (AFTER realizing that EGW was NOT a true prophet). But I could not find a true connection (however, I am not in the position to say one way or the other!). That's just been my observation based on the information I have had available to me to this point. If the connection exists based on the evidence, I'd like to see the evidence.

Night I noticed this a year ago. ellen and James were in Rochester NY for 3 years, the home territory of Mormonism, james and ellen had 3 years to learn how to gain influence over people. I wish this were looked at on a deeper level. I think there is a connection there. deeper and thighter then even SDA's think. I would not be suprised if it were shown that the Whites studyed from some of the mormon defenders and critics and took notes. I guess the place to start would be to study Mormonism in Rochester and who were its supporters and detractors and see if the Whites Associated with any of them while in Rochester.

Any ideas as to where to start.

Any connection between SDA and Mormonism is not going to be on a doctrional level. they are too different and the SDA's are not trying to be so different. they are trying to appeal to mainstreem christianity Mormonism is not.

It will be on an instutional and Administrative level. where did james and ellen get there leadership ideas After Rochester they emerged as a powerful force and were never relinquished the power again. They were able to survive a split and crush any rebellion that stood in there way. where did this come from if it was not divine.
