I think sanctions should be applied to the Philippines.

...It's a human rights violation.
It actually could be quite a lot worse than that. Remember, Duterte made the campaign promise to kill some hundred thousand criminals in his first six months. Right now, he's got 60,000 alleged addicts or dealers locked up. Now, far from me to say that a political opponent is a mass-murdering monster liable to keep the campaign promises that brought him to power, but... does anything about this situation scream "HE'S GOING TO MURDER TENS OF THOUSANDS OF PRISONERS!!!" to anyone else?! This is a clear-cut and disgusting violation of human rights, a modern-day mass lynching of the kind one might expect from a fascist regime. But the worst of the bloodletting might still be to come. Maybe it's still preventable. Something should probably be done about it.

Funny. I just read the other day that a study showed that people with a higher IQ are more inclined to drug use.

Not abuse btw... just good ol' regular recreational use.

Interesting.

Old news. Sherlock Holmes was a coke addict. And that was in the mid-late 1800s.

the inevitable result of the 'strong survive- the weak perish' evolution worldview.
Only if you fundamentally misunderstand what evolution has to say, or lack any and all understanding of why humanity has been so strong for the last 10,000 years.

Duterte continues to ingratiate himself with the right.

As if killing poor people was not exciting enough, he has now called Obama a 'Son of a harlot'. In the past he also called John Kerry 'crazy', and called the US ambassador to the Philippines the 'Gay son of a harlot' (his offensive vocabulary appears limited).

Quite the charmer isn't he? Whatever happened to diplomacy?

Obama promptly cancelled a scheduled meeting between the 2 leaders. Which I do not think is unreasonable, given the insult.

Obama calls off meeting with Philippine leader after 'harlot' jibe

Much like the removal of anything that would prevent people falling from heights results from the gravitationalist world view.

Sherlock Holmes is a fictional character.
Of course he was/is. But in 1800s London, cocaine addiction was understood as a malady of the rich or highly intelligent, which is why Doyle wrote him that way. Apparently it was commonplace in certain circles.
