Although voter fraud in the Democratic party was rampant in Chicago politics before the rise of Jim Jones, he was perhaps the most notorious example of it.

Jim Jones was a communist Democrat, mass murderer, and voter fraud organizer. Jones was cozy with liberal politicians. I guess they couldn't see how dangerous he was. Using busloads of his brainwashed "Peoples Temple" members, Jones reportedly went to multiple poll stations to help elect a liberal San Francisco mayor.

After the election, the new Democrat San Francisco mayor gave Jones a powerful position as the San Francisco Housing Authority.

But, not surprisingly, liberals began distancing themselves from their association with Jones after the Jonestown Massacre which ended the lives of more than 900 members of the Peoples Temple, including women and children.

Why do you ask me if I know about this when I'm the one who posted the thread about it? Did you not see the references in the OP? The expression about drinking "Kool Aid" did come about because of the Jonestown Massacre. It's not unChristian to mention that truth. I brought it up because it's what came to mind. I never criticized the children. The children were innocent victims who were led there by their parents.

My reason for telling people about this is because there are actually a lot of people today who naively think that communism is harmless. I think it's mostly the younger generation that doesn't know the danger of communism because many of them haven't seen examples of how evil it is. The young people of today were born after the Jonestown Massacre happened. But the older generation remembers it.

I remember my mom telling me that my grandmother (who passed away) was approached by one of the Jim Jones cult followers. They tried to get my grandmother to join. But she rejected their offer because she was strongly Christian and knew her Bible, and she could recognize that what they were doing was wrong. There's a saying that a society that forgets history is doomed to repeat it. That's why we need to keep this tragedy from being forgotten. Jim Jones was a wolf in sheep clothing.

Since I anticipate that someone might deny that Jim Jones was a communist, here's proof from the transcript of the recording of the massacre that he was a communist:

And he acted like a communist in confiscating the money and property of his followers. It was a Jim Jones communist government called Jonestown.

But it is where the expression comes from. I don't think LWU should be faulted for pointing that interesting, if horrific and tragic, bit of etymology.

There is a rival Kool-Aid connotation from roughly the same period meaning, "You're tripping", hallucinating or deluded from when LSD was sometimes delivered via Kool-Aid - see Tom Wolfe's The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test about Ken Kesey and his Merry Pranksters.

I didn't claim that Jim Jones lived in Chicago. I made the point that voter fraud was practiced in the Democratic party before the rise of Jim Jones. And I mentioned Chicago as a prime example. I think Chicago is probably where it first started.
