Sometimes it's said that everything that the enemy says is a lie. Sometimes referencing John 8:44 "Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it."

But in the Matt 8 account, they correctly identified Yeshua as the Son of God.
Matt 8 "28 And when he was come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes, there met him two possessed with devils, coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that way. 29 And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?" It wasn't the men, the demons said v 31 "So the devils besought him, saying, If thou cast us out, suffer us to go away into the herd of swine."

Understand not wanting to give the enemy any credit and certainly believe Scripture. Just wondering what would be a better way to state it taking into consideration all the Scripture.

Remember when the Lord was tempted of the devil.

In the instances we have where those exact temptations were recorded the devil used scripture (which is truth and no lie) to tempt Jesus.

However the devil presented those scriptures to Jesus in a perverted way which was a lie.

Sorta like if a person wanting to poison a dog, would it be very effective just to throw the dog the poison expecting it to eat.

Not likely to be very effective.

But if the poison was mixed with a good piece of meat then the dog would eat.

The devil many times will present truth mixed with the lie in order to deceive.

The more deceived a person is the less truth is mixed with the lie.

Some are so deceive they receive the lie without any truth mixed at all.

The devil's agenda is to kill. If he cannot kill then he attempts to steal and/or destroy.

He, acting like a roaring lion seeks whom he may destroy.

Those that he finds who can be destroyed, stolen from and eventually killed are those who receive the lie, mixed or not.

Even though Satan can certainly employ elements of truth, as with how he inserts aspects of truth into a conversation, as the overall message that he may attempt to convey to someone will always be a lie then this is what Jesus is speaking about. No matter how deceptive an individual may be (including Satan) when they are trying to deceive someone they will be compelled to use specific words (which are truth) but he will construct these elements of truth in a manner that will be designed to mislead and deceive.

In Matthew 8, the devil had learned by experience that Christ was the son of God, because the devil himself came to tempt Christ in the desert for 40 days. If you study what Christ resisted, he resisted all 3 temptations that were presented to Adam and Eve in the garden... lust of the flesh, denying the consequence of violating the law which is death, and rebellion against God. Christ overcame all 3 in perfection, which no man had done in all human history.

So satan knew Jesus was God's son not by faith or revelation, but by the practical knowledge of attempting to tempt Christ and failing where by Christ was not in the devil's kingdom. Ephesians 2:2 - Because of this verse, any other man would have failed those 3 temptations. If a person attempts to resist in their own ability to receive directly from the Father in this regard, they would have failed because they are not perfect, but Christ was perfect spiritually. Yet the devil was even obvlivious to this until he realized it by defeat, because when he came to tempt Christ, "If you be the son of God..." so at that moment satan was still stupid about who Christ was.

Satan killed all the children in Christ's village because satan knew enough to know what village he would be in, but not which babe he was. It was when Christ defeated him and he fled that satan figured it out. Satan would have recorded in his records that Christ lived in that village where he wiped out the babies, and then this same baby that survived comes and resists him completely.

Satan has no faith, but he has intellect that can plot to figure something out.

Truth vs. Facts - Satan deals with facts, but not with truth, God is truth, and sometimes the truth is not a fact. Truth creates facts in the near-present or future, but it is often not the present case.

Satan will very often come to us with facts. "You are sick!" "Remember that really bad sin you did yesterday?"

But we are supposed to respond to what he says.

Satan - "You are sick!" Christian - "No plague can come near my dwelling, I'm delivered from all sickness in Christ!"
Satan - "You sinned yesterday!" Christian - "HE is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us of all unrighteousness, I am a new creation in Christ Jesus, all old things have passed away, all things are new!"

This reason it works this way is because, "God calleth those things that be not as though they were." - Romans 4:17

When God said, "Let there be light" there was no light. God made it with his words. The word of truth creates when someone speaks it, and it is that manner of creative word that a Christian deals with, but these words are not facts. They are higher than fact because they are truth. They will change facts to the truth.

Think of this the bible says "Satan transforms himself into an angel of light". To do that he must mix the lies with truth. The the whole recent gay rights debacle. He says essentially this through people:

It is right to love all people (true), gays just have love for one another (false), we should accept gay sex as normal because they are just in love (false).

With out the truth, the devil can not present his lie.

If he is trying to get a man to sin sexually, or use inappropriate content, he will say "It will feel good, so just do it" ... he just spoke the truth, for a time t will feel good, but he neglects to tell the consequences.

The devil always will speak the truth (or a part truth), with the lie.
