Alot of footballers won't confess their faith in public, incase it puts too much extra pressure on them and if they mess up on the pitch (lose there temper, bad challenge ect) they fear the good old British media will have a go at them for not being a real Christian or what ever. Apprently all the Christians in football meet up once or twice a year th for a conference.

As for Christian footballers Brian Dean is one that pops into my head. Also remember Aaro Lennon havng "God is love" on his boot during the 2006 world cup.

Got a couple of Leeds Rhinos players who go to my church too

If he was converted I think there would have to be a massive impact on his lifestyle if his conversion was to make people sit up and take notice.

Jason Robinson (England rugby union international) is a star of the modern game and a committed christian. He is a fine role model.

cheers,
Andy

I forget the teams and am not even sure which competition, but it had to be one of the top UK Rugby competitions (because that is all we get from the UK in the states). One side was missing a consistent starting
back because it was Sunday. So there is at least one other who takes his faith seriously. (Not saying those who do not hold to not working on the Sabbath are not serious, just that those who do and follow it despite financial loss are making a serious commitment that can easily be seen from the outside).

That reminds me of Jonathan Edwards, the British triple-jump world-record holder, who 20 years ago refused to compete on Sundays because of his Christian faith, which cost him a shot at the World Championships once. A vicar eventually had to talk him out of that habit by encouraging him to express his God-given talent; but, at any rate, he has unfortantely become an atheist since.

As regards the rugby player keith99, I think you must be thinking of Michael Jones, a Samoan who played for New Zealand in the 80s/90s. He missed the semi-final of the first World Cup in 1987 against Wales because it was a Sunday.

Also, I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Jermain Defoe - he spoke about his faith on Football Focus a few years ago. Others I know of include Kanu, Darren Moore, Linvoy Primus and Stuart Elliott.

Going back to rugby, anyone else remember Waisale Serevi's Fiji winning the 1997 World Cup Sevens all with Phil 4:13 on their shirts?

Jay Jay Okocha used to write Jesus-related things on his t-shirt so he could show them off when he scored. Tony Pulis (Stoke City manager) is also a pretty devout catholic. Artur Boruc of Celtic is nicknames the "Holy Goalie", but he's also catholic.

Not all footballers live this crazy lifestyle you see reported. It's just you're going to sell more papers writing about Wayne Rooney visiting prosititutes than you are writing about Damien Duff sleeping in until 3PM, then making toast.

....and curiously enough, Rooney himself is a devout Catholic, like most Irish scousers.

But judging by his tabloid lifestyle, he probably enters the confessional booth more times than Jack in the Box. ^_^

I remember that now... Didn't he say that if he didn't become a footballer, he wanted to become a priest?!!

KaKa is probably one of the Globally recognised Christians, as this video shows, not a moment goes by without him displaying Jesus' name somewhere upon his person

YouTube - Kaká : I belong to jesus

Many players cross themselves when they come onto the pitch, so maybe watch Match of the day and compile a list :-D

Don't be daft, Wayne Rooney can't read.
OP, Nicola Legrottaglie of Juventus became a born again Christian a couple of years back. I see Kaka has already been mentioned in this thread, but yeah, him.
