I think the reason there was a delay in the reporting of the accident and the acident itself is because the VP was drinking and hunting at the same time. The Sheriff department found no evidence of drinking because they weren't notified when the incident took place. They weren't allowed to come into contact with the VP until the following day.

Then again, the event took place in Texas, Dead Eye Dick could have run a school bus full of kids off the road and been cleared of any wrong doing.

Secret Service spokesman Eric Zahren said that about an hour after Whittington was shot, the head of the Secret Service's local office called the Kenedy County sheriff to report the accident. "They made arrangements at the sheriff's request to have deputies come out and interview the vice president the following morning at 8 a.m. and that indeed did happen," Zahren said.

Why are people making such a big deal about this hunting accident? This is all i've heard about all week, and i'm in Canada.

so what, bird hunting is not that easy, and why do they make a big deal about it not being reported to the next day? it's like the media thinks they're so important that they have a right to be notified first thing.

Media PLEASE stop talking about this!!!!!

Because it's interesting and kinda funny. Really now, how often does the vice president of the United States accidentally shoot someone? That's an interesting event, even if it was an accident.

AS for all the stuff on why it took so long for the admin to tell anyone about the event, I think it's more a reaction to how secretive this admin has been. Add in that a good portion of people don't trust the admin - when they delay on releasing something (especially something significant, like shooting someone) it arouses supspicions.

Wonderful words of wisdom! I wonder how outraged these people get knowing that Cheney does not inform the media each time he goes to the bathroom. Especially since the accident's a private affair.
People are obsessing over this because it feeds into their idea that Cheney is Satan. That's why all these conspiracies about him are showing up.

Kinda like Hillary running over a policeman then not stopping?

I want to you pay attention. Hillary did not run over anyone. Your own sources to that story said she was a PASSENGER of a vehicle that injured an officer(who was not run over).

Why do you insist on lying? Shame on you.

George started a duplicate thread (against the rukles btw) because he was totally discredited in the other thread for claiming that HIllary Clinton ran someone over. The mistake he made in that thread was providing a link to the story so people could read for themselves. He hasn't made that same mistake here. Too bad making unevidenced claims discrediting someone is against the rules.

Also George, writing something that you know to be false in the hopes of ruining someones good name and reputation is a crime, it's called libel and its a felony.

I didn't know that shooting someone was a private affair. I understand that it was an accident, but when you are the Vice President of the United States, privacy in such a matter is not a reasonable expectation.

If he was drunk (which they most likely won't be able to prove), then obviously he's made a grave mistake and should be (but won't be) punished moreso than if he was sober. If not, then it was just an accident.

If the man he shot dies because of this accident, then Cheney could be charged with involuntary manslaughter. It won't go that far, though, because he's the Vice President.

I personally think it was an accident. I don't know if he was drunk or not, I haven't really seen any indication that he was (if there is proof, please let me know). I just hope the man lives.

PS - Hillary Clinton did NOT run over a police officer, she was just a passenger. That's like spreading a rumor than Laura Bush intenionally killed her ex-boyfriend in a car accident when she was 17 (it was an accident, but I've heard it before).

I don't think it's appropriate to compare going to the bathroom and shooting someone. They're just a little bit different don't you think?

Are the Republicans willing to write off Clinton's "accident" when he actually had a "private affair?

Do you mean the time that he was impeached for perjury and obstruction of justice and looked into the eyes of the nation and said "I did not have sexual relations with that woman"...that one?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impeachment_of_Bill_Clinton

Actually, I think Cheney did it on purpose...yeah that's it....sure it is....he was drinking...yeah he was wasted...that's it...and everyone else but the victim was involved....yeah, that's it, too.....How do I know? Well, I don't really...but just like everyone else I am going to state it as fact...I don't have a link, but believe me anyway.....just believe me. It's the only way it was possible..... The $7 stamp thing was just overlooked.

Out of context quote ;)

See I guess I was wrong, and now this is the new story that need to be reported.

Actually there are no "facts" to prove if he was or was not drinking.

This could have been put to rest, if he and all of the hunting party had been interviewed at the time of the incident. Any flack he takes is due to bad p.r. on his part. He should have had the foresight, if he was innocent of any wrong-doing to make sure that no one could suggest he had been drinking.

Cheney, 'A Beer or Two' and a Gun

Now my understanding is that both Bush and Cheney are supposed to be "recovering alcoholics", but it's also my understanding that recovering alcoholics don't drink alcohol; and they certainly don't go hunting when they've been drinking alcohol.

So, if Cheney had a "beer or two" — he certainly isn't sober and he's not even abstinent from alcohol, is he?

But then, what do I know? After all, I'm a godlessatheisticcommiepinkosocialistdemoncraticlieberalalquedasupportingbushhatingcheneybashing

Do you mean Vince Foster? The man that many claim Clinton had killed. Sure, he was never charged with anything, but using the logic of the people turning this whole ordeal into a conspiracy, that ONLY PROVES that he MURDERED the man and the government covered it up!

If by accident, you mean when he intentionally lied, then I suggest you get a new dictionary and figure out what "accident" really means.
