Blood Moon, lunar eclipse, Supermoon 2015: what time and how to see the moon’s most spectacular night in 30 years
On the night of 27 September, the sky will see some of the most stunning views in living memory

On Sunday night, the moon will be both its brightest and its darkest in the year. But if you’re looking up to the sky, you’ll want to make sure you time it right — the full show will only last for about 71 minutes.

The two events will happen late on 27 September, and in the early morning of 28 September.

The first part of the night, the Supermoon, will last all evening. Heading out and looking at the sky at any time during the night — and to a lesser extent the days around it — will allow you to see what’s set to be a brilliant full moon.
But then the brightest moon of the year will gradually be plunged into darkness, as the lunar eclipse begins. When the Earth moves between the sun and the moon, it sends it dark — and then as the light bends around our planet on its way from the sun, it will turn it red, and the bloody colour of the moon gives it its name.

The two events occurring at once hasn't happened in 30 years.

The moon will start going into partial eclipse at 12.07am in the UK. The lunar eclipse will then become total from 1.11am until 2.23am. The eclipse will then end entirely at 4.27am.

The events should be well visible for those in western Europe, western Africa, the Americas and across the Atlantic Ocean.

Some thing this is when the world will come to an end, misunderstanding that this may be the beginning of Jacobs trouble.

I heard when this occurred in the past there has been a significant event in Israel. I'll be watching.

The full Moon of Sept 27/28 is a Supermoon which means the Moon will be closest to the Earth and look larger than normal. Total eclipses of Super Full Moons are rare. According to NASA, they have only occurred 5 times in the 20th century 1910, 1910, 1928, 1964, 1982. After the Sept 27/ 28, 2015, a Supermoon eclipse will not happen again until Oct 8, 2033, 18 years later.

People in eastern and central areas of the United States and Canada will have some of the best views of the Total Lunar Eclipse on the night of September 27, 2015, weather permitting. The eclipse will begin after moon rises and finish around midnight. While North and South Americans will be able to see the eclipse after sunset on September 27, 2015, people in Africa, Europe and Middle East can view it during the early hours of September 28, before the Sun rises.

Did you know that Solar and lunar eclipses come in pairs? A lunar eclipse always takes place two weeks before or after a solar eclipse. The Sept 27/ 28, 2015 Total Lunar Eclipse was preceded by a Partial Solar Eclipse on Sept 13, 2015. 2015 has 4 eclipses, the minimum number of eclipses that can happen in a calendar year. March 20th total, April 4, partial Sept 13th and total Sept 28 lunar eclipse marks the last eclipse of the year.

The Sept 28, 2015 Total Lunar Eclipse is the fourth and final eclipse in a series of four total lunar eclipses. Each of the eclipses in the tetrad occurs about 6 months apart and have 5 full Moons between them.

Lunar tetrads can be rare in some centuries and can occur frequently in others. The 21st century will have 8 lunar tetrads, the maximum number of lunar tetrads that can occur in a century. The last time this happened was in the 9th century. The next lunar tetrad starts with April 25, 2032 Total Lunar Eclipse.

The Jewish Calendar is a lunar calendar and Passover always occurs around a full Moon. Since a total lunar eclipse can only occurs on a full Moon, it will happen that an eclipse will take place on or near Passover.

Seasons are opposite on either side of the Equator, so the equinox in September is also called the Harvest Moon or Fall equinox in the Northern Hemisphere and in the Southern Hemisphere, it's known as the Spring or Vernal equinox. This time it will all happen together. It is a Supermoon, Harvest Moon, Blood Moon.

Lunar eclipses occur in 18 year cycles called Saros cycles. Saros cycles share time of the year and the distance of the Moon from Earth. Eclipses that are separated by a Saros cycle are included in a Saros series. The Sept 27/ 28, 2015 Lunar Eclipse belongs to Saros Series 137. It is the 28th eclipse and the last total lunar eclipse in a series of 81 lunar eclipses. The series began with a penumbral eclipse on Dec 17, 1564 and will end with another penumbral eclipse on April 20, 2953.

It's tonight, after midnight est.

There won't be another Supermoon total eclipse until I'm probably dead. I wish I could see this but watching the weather report right now, it's doubtful. There seems to be some interesting weather going on in the US right now.
The coasts are being inundated but flash flood warnings and a storm circulating off the east coast.

For those who hope to see the eclipse check out this map

http://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/lunar/2015-september-28 to see where it will be visable.

It last over an hour too.

Some will be able to see it go into it's prenumbral phase, Australiasia seems to be the only areas that won't see anything.

I've heard that some said it won't be visible in Israel. That isn't accurate. The partial phases won't be seen, but the most important phase, the entire Total phase will be visible throughout all Israel. And it happens just as they are rising in the morning. After midnight in the US many will miss it. But starting @ 5:47AM in Tel Aviv it will be a real eye opener! They are set for clear skies too.

Sunrise commences @ 6:32 so it should be able to be seen before then.

The clouds broke here just in time to see it come out of the eclipse. But there are many pictures from around the world and maybe that is what this was building up to? Could this have been the reason for these? I wonder how many people are dusting off their bibles to find out for themselves what this could all mean?

The last time this happened was in the 60's, no cell phones, no satellites, no computers, no selfies, no instagram, no twitter, now add all that in and there were pictures of this event happening available for folks to see even before it happened in their part of the world.

Cloudy for me too. If nobody saw it, maybe the world won't end? :sorry:
I don't understand why people wouldn't want it to or why they fear. You know the outcome is marvelous, right?

The last supermoon lunar eclipse was in 1982.
