But think about it, how many people don't completely stop at stop signs... I know you're meant to... a lot of people don't though... It was dark, the pedestrian crossing was unmarked... it doesn't make it right, but it does contribute.
The problem wasn't the stop sign.
He didn't watch where he was going.
He hit a 71 year old woman crossing the road.
71 year olds don't move to fast.
His stopping or at least slowing down would have sparred this woman's life.
Alot of cyclists don't stop when making a right turn and only slow down when
crossing the road. But to hit a pedestrian?
71 year olds are frail, but cycles have to be going pretty fast to directly kill
a woman. A fractured hip could indirectly kill, but it doesn't sound like this
is the case.
At least in the US, bicyclists are supposed to follow the same traffic laws as motor vehicles. Running a stop sign is illegal, for a car or bicycle. I really annoys me to see bicyclists completely ignore traffic lights, stops signs, etc.

Me too. Some think they have a completely different set of rules than drivers OR Pedestrians. Then some drivers completely disregard cyclists too. It is crazy.
