Thanks for posting this Dot, I remember listening to it live but I think there was some stuff that I missed. When he was explaining the theology behind bringing icons or other items to the alter for 40 days I thought that was excellent. I actually transcribed it because I think it would be educational for my wife, and it would be timely because we got into a heated argument about the Eucharist (real presence or not) and about the Intercession of the Saints. I think Fr. Evan's explanation would at least shed light on the former...

Our theology of the sacraments is not one of "ritual" per se, but one of transformative power. So we believe that the energies of God are transmitted even through matter… When Christ is on Earth, he does use matter to heal. So, as he's walking through a crowd, a woman touches the hem of his garment and is healed. He spits and makes mud and anoints a mans eyes and he sees. He tells another man who is blind to go wash in the pool of [scent] and he receives his sight. This tradition is carried on even in the Acts of the Apostles where we learn that the faithful would bring handkerchiefs or little cloths and place them on Paul in order to then take those handkerchiefs to the sick and the sick would recover—it's right there in the text.

Do you guys think that would be a sufficient answer? She's pretty staunchly against some of this stuff, so I wonder if this would make sense and perhaps ease her a bit...

It's also possible to sponsor a transcript of a podcast through AFR - it's a bit spendy, but I've done it before for stuff that I really liked. After it's transcribed they post it with the podcast for everyone to use.
