In the years since his death, Albright's methods and conclusions have been increasingly questioned. William Dever claims that "[Albright's] central theses have all been overturned, partly by further advances in Biblical criticism, but mostly by the continuing archaeological research of younger Americans and Israelis to whom he himself gave encouragement and momentum ... The irony is that, in the long run, it will have been the newer 'secular' archaeology that contributed the most to Biblical studies, not 'Biblical archaeology.'"[14]

Biblical scholar Thomas L. Thompson contends that the methods of "biblical archaeology" have also become outmoded: "[Wright and Albright's] historical interpretation can make no claim to be objective, proceeding as it does from a methodology which distorts its data by selectivity which is hardly representative, which ignores the enormous lack of data for the history of the early second millennium, and which wilfully establishes hypotheses on the basis of unexamined biblical texts, to be proven by such (for this period) meaningless mathematical criteria as the 'balance of probability' ..."


I don't think that anyone doubts that the bible contains references to actual events, people and places but that doesn't mean that the whole thing is historically accurate...... It seems that you can't grasp this simple fact.

The modern historical consensus is that the older parts of the Tanakh were primarily authored during the 6th and 5th centuries BC during the Babylonian captivity. It would be interesting to see how the attested historical figures match to that claim.

So... the measure of validity of a media article (book, movie, painting, picture, etc.) is how many real life people it can mention? As others have already pointed out, you can do this with a wide variety of books and other materials which are patently fiction. From your position I gather that your needed threshold of evidence you need to believe something is very low, which explains a lot.

Crucifixion was reserved for just two crimes: rebellious slaves and political agitators of the lowest social classes. As a punishment it was designed to inflict maximum suffering and humiliation both before and after death and on both the victim and any onlookers. It was intended to be a slow agonizing death that sometimes took as long as a week. The fact that Jesus died after just a few hours indicates that he was physically debilitated, perhaps by torture and/or a long incarceration, before being crucified. Observers were kept well away from the site of execution and were never allowed to speak to or give any comfort to the victim. Finally, to complete the humiliation, the body was discarded into a shallow grave to be consumed by feral dogs and scavenger birds. Of all the tens of thousands of crucifixions the remains of only one have ever been found that was given a burial. Interestingly enough these remains indicated that the victim had been nailed through his ankles into the sides of the upright post.

Certainly. Luke says that Jesus was born during the governorship of Quirinius in Syria. Matthew states that he was born during the reign of King Herod. Since Herod died in 4 BC, and Quirinius wasn't the governor of Syria until 6 AD, one of them (at least) has to be wrong.
