(AgapePress) - "This is the White House calling. You need to call us." These are the words Gianna Jessen heard as she listened to her voicemail.

Eager to the return the call she assumed was a joke, she dialed the number. The voice on the other end gave her news she never expected to hear: "You need to get on a plane within two days because you're going to meet the president in Pittsburgh. He's signing the bill that you testified in favor of a couple of years ago."
Reality set in as Jessen arrived in Pittsburgh and was led into a crowded room where she met President George W. Bush. She was too nervous to speak, but Bush calmed her anxiety with a hug.
"The president of the United States is treating me like his next-door neighbor," Jessen remembers thinking.
"This is the way I need to be in leadership," she thought. "The Scripture that kept running through my mind [was] 'He who is chief among you will be the servant of all.'"

After President Bush finished signing that bill, he signed another bill cutting funding to the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), the Women's, Infants and Children's Food Program (WIC), HeadStart, and Medicaid funding for expectant mothers and their children.

Jensen asked the President, "Why are you cutting funds which are needed for pregnant mothers and their children, as well as healthcare and food programs for mothers and children?"

The President responded, "We are in a War on Terrism, and Americans need to sacrifice so we go after Al Queda. Also, we need to focus our energy on Hurricane Katrina, so I've authorized Halliburton to organize cleanup efforts. Finally, we need a tax cut to stimulate the economy, and to that end I've submitted a bill to Congress authorizing another 15 percent tax reduction on incomes over $200,000. I'm afraid we may not have enough money in fiscal year 2006 to fund WIC, CHIP, and other programs like these."

For the record and to offset blatent propaganda and misinformation, The Federal Budget (IE: WIC) cuts are really not cuts, but rather slow downs in the rate of growth.

The federal government (unlike the rest of us) deals in projections. Lets say that they projected a 10% increase for WIC. Later looking to save money, they revise that to 8%.

As soon as this is down, those looking to bash whoever proposed the 8% instead of 10% call it a "cut".

Its not a cut, WIC will still get 8% more in the next year than they had in the previous year. Yet to those who like fuzzy math, they scream "Oh, its a cut!!!" "Bush hates women and kids."

Of course these same people prefer communism and socialism and redistribution of wealth, but those things are another topic altogether.

Its also of note that the same people screaming about "cuts" also yell about the deficit. Its a very strange world to live in.

Interesting. When did the command to care for the poor and needy get removed from the Bible?

hmm...I do not understand this statement. Bush directed money out of a fund designated for the poor and needy to go to uhmm...the poor and needy. Step back from party politics for just a moment. There was an urgent need that had to be satisfied. Bush's options were to raise taxes, take out loans from foreign governments, or use money that was already available.

BTW, a 10% estimate is not the same as actual funds available. In the world of accounting, a budget is set up as a guideline, but in no way, shape, or form does that mean that dollars must be spent for exactly the amount in the budget. Any spending LESS than what was budgeted is considered a favorable variance to the budget. If Bush had not spent one dime on Katrina, and had still reduced the dollars going to the other social programs, this is not defined as a cut. It is defined as a savings. But, that is not what happened. He re-directed part of the budget to another equally important social program.

About the time that "compassionate conservatism" came into office and formed an Administration.

Do you mean when Bush was elected to office? Would you prefer that our tax dollars be used to fund partial birth abortions where babies are born alive and viable outside of the mother's womb, but insteqd have their skulls crushed with an instrument similar to a nutcracker? Bush's predecessor was the one who signed that attrocity into law. So, I will take the compassionate conservative over the administration of death any day of the week.

Yeah and thanks to Bush's cuts on things like Medicaid for low income pregnant women, my sister was not able to get Medicaid while she was pregnant with my new niece who was born a few weeks ago.

But pregnant women are people! They already have full protection under the law, why would they need health care? *rolls eyes*

As an outside looking in, I have to say that Pres. Bush is really being all that Pres. Clinton was not. Pres. Clinton admitted his mistakes; he cared for the poor; he tried to make welfare and welfare-to-work programs work; he even tried to get more people affordable health care.

That said, I am glad that a law now protects these babies.

Please explain. I have never heard of anyone turned down for aid who needed it. For example, fifteen years ago, I found myself pregnant without insurance. I was not working, but my husband was. I went to Social Services to see if there was any help available, but we were not qualified because my husband made something like $500 per year too much. Now, it took us five years to pay for all the medical expenses, but we were able to do it. Was your sister disqualified because she did not meet the requirements, or was she disqualified because there were no funds available?

More emotional propaganda.

My gods thats ALL I ever hear from the pro-life camp.

It's not propoganda although it should cause an emotional response. Do your research. The United States is the only country in the world that allows partial birth abortions, and those babies are indeed killed just as I described. The woman is induced into labor, then, the baby's skull is crushed within the birth canal, then delivered dead. This is not an embryo, nor a fetus, but a fully formed infant. At most, the baby does not have fully formed lungs, but every other body part is fully formed including the brain which means the baby is capable of feeling pain. This is fact, not propoganda. Open your eyes.

Open your eyes and become a pro-lifer, is that it?
Why not leave these people alone who has to deal with having an abortion, insted of pointing your selfrightious judgemental finger, in an effort to give your own life some kind of meaning.

Boy, that was the cruelest post I have seen in a long time.... perhaps her life has meaning b/c she knows the facts and her heart is not dead and cold surrounding same said facts.

Back off her a little.
