So, do you believe that the gifts are fully active and to be desired?

Yes, but recognize how Paul has to explain what that desire must be ground in chapter 13 of 1 Corinthians: Love. And love is always selfless, which brings us to the problems with the modern charismatic movement which is steeped in pride, self-centered attention seeking, and showmanship in ministry. The exact opposite of true love.

If you "try" to function in the Spiritual gifts, you're only going to indulge demons because that's not how it works. Jesus is the head, He does the thinking, and all people need to do is walk out Biblical ministry with the right heart and God will do His thing when He sees fit for the benefit of the Body.

That means you may not see anything supernatural in your ministry for weeks or months at a time. Is that alright? Can we simply speak the truth of the scriptures to encourage and edify people? Can we love and care for them in natural ways that meet natural needs? Or is that kind of Christianity too boring? That's the real question facing this movement which is caught in the box of church ministry and only reaches out to the world to heap up more believers into the pyramid scheme which expands the earthly kingdoms of men.

when these revivals start attracting in thousands on unbelievers, I'll be convinced about them. All I see is jet setting believers on a signs and wonders sight seeing tour.

Steve

I did a presentation on the Smithton Outpouring in a seminary History of Revivals class. I referred to this phenomenon calling it "revival as tourist attraction".

So has anyone actually BEEN to this revival or are we all just judging it from a distance without actually, you know, seeing if our assumptions are right?

And how can we even judge reports if the link in the OP is dead?

But then who are you to decide that someone else is trying to function in the Spiritual gifts? Sure there are times when it's painfully obvious, Jimmy Swaggart comes to mind, but to just throw a blanket over every movement that you don't approve of, where do any of us get that kind of authority, especially in light of scriptural promises and mandates that God won't give us evil gifts if we ask Him for good gifts, and to go out and do the miraculous. Yes, Jesus only did the miracles that He saw the Father doing, and we should do the same, but Jesus saw the Father move more often than not. If we are truly believing God the times without the miraculous should be fewer than the times with the miraculous. It's a dying world, and they need all the life we can bring them.

Obviously, but how can you tell if it IS Scriptual if you don't actually go to it and see for yourself? Anyone can say anything they want about anything on the Internet- actually going to the darn thing is a lot more informative on what's actually happening there than second hand accounts from people who obviously don't like the people running the thing.

So you are saying we should not judge by mere appearances.

Sounds scriptural to me.
