No, murder is any unlawful, premeditated taking of human life. Suicide is a subset of murder.

Is despair a sin?

The seven deadly sins used by Christians to instruct followers includes "Sloth" in which despair would be a subset. By despairing one would be in a state of spiritual decay.


As for the original post, I don't see why suicide is a sin. People who commit suicide are generally physically ill (such as clinical depression, bi-polar disorder, etc.) or there is so much wrong with their life that living is awful. In either case, why would God choose to abandon or even punish them instead of help them? They would be the ones who need him the most, yet they are the ones forsaken?
