Reps: 10 (power: 0) | | New and slightly scared Hi guys
This is my 1st time on this board (on any board infact)
I was wondering if you could give me some tips.
I'm an atheist, but Id like to know more about theistic evolution - where does a belief in God fit into it, (or to different TEs have different views on God's role)?
Dont really have time to get into any major disscussions tonight - essay to write, but I'd be interested to hear your views on this.
Also, whats a blessing? (see completely clueless!)
Thanks |

I'm an atheist, but Id like to know more about theistic evolution - where does a belief in God fit into it, (or to different TEs have different views on God's role)? AFAIK, the general consensus is that God caused the Big Bang in such a way that it led to the development of humans. I'm not really an expert, being atheist too. Different TE's tend to differ on this point. Dont really have time to get into any major disscussions tonight - essay to write, but I'd be interested to hear your views on this.
I hate essays. For some reason, mine are always a couple of pages short. Also, whats a blessing? (see completely clueless!)
Thanks
You get a blessings for making posts and starting threads, as well as being given them by others. You can exchange them for things like signatures and avatars. Unfortunately, there is a bug at the moment preventing them from being seen properly, but it should be gone soon.
Some helpful acronyms: (the most often asked about) AFAIK: As far as I know
LOL: laughs out loud
YEC: Young Earth Creationist
IMO/IMHO: In my (honest) opinion
OP: Original post/original poster

I've been reading posts from this board for a while. Came across it by accident when I googled some evolutionary term researching an essay - ended up at Kent Hovind's website (think im scarred for life!) There's a link from Hovinds website to Christianforums, so I checked it out. As a student studying biology I've found it very interesting, sometimes I'm amazed at the endless patience evolutionists on this board seem to posses. |

Phantom got it. There are some theistic evolutionists that also believe that god caused certain mutations or environmental changes to get desired results.

Among many many other people I would recomend doing a search on posts by Lucaspa, not only is he a theistic evolutionist but a biologist and has taught many here a lot. Originally Posted by Kitten of woe Thanks for the advice.

Basically, a theistic evolutionist is a christian who is not scared to look at the evidence for an old universe and for evolution, and to accept it as it makes sense. You look at it all and see that there is no direct conflict between science and religion. You see science as the "how" and religion as the "why".
This does not make God any less powerful, or any less God for doing it this way, it just shows that He is a logical God (fancy that), and the fact that the universe was created according to the laws of physics and biology means surely that we should not be afraid to study them? Science until the last century or so when religion has become less usual, shall we say, was looked at as the study of Gods creation. Thats still how I view it, and as far as Im concerned, as a christian, the only sensible way to go about it.
Good luck with the essay avoidance!
