Reps: 5,365 (power: 27) | | | Are scientists stupid or is there a conspiracy I have said this in many other threads and it is generally ignored and never answered. So I thought I would give it its own thread so it can be ignored in it too.
This is for people that claim that evolution is not science or that the 2LoT disproves evolution.
1) Science
According to some creationists evolution is not science, yet scientists say it is, so...
•Do scientists not understand what science is, and thus are pretty stupid to even call themselves scientists?
or
•Is there a giant conspiracy going on that the majority of scientists are part of that makes scientists of all backgrounds claim evolution is science when its really not?
2) 2LoT
Although there aren't many around right now, some creationists claim that the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics disproves evolution, so...
•Are scientists of the last 150 years morons for not realizing that the 2LoT, generally a high school physics lesson, disproves evolution?
or
•Is there a giant conspiracy going on that forces the majority of scientists to ignore the 2LoT and claim evolution is true even though high school physics disproves it?
I am hoping for real answers and not dodges, but we will see if I get anything at all. I can't think of any other possibilities for these two claims, but it seems that few creationists have thought their claims through.

Reps: 71 (power: 0) | | | I've always found it strange that YEC's throw out many of the sciences that contradict their worldview (for that reason alone), but cling on to the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics for dear life and bring it up time and time again in their defence. |

Reps: 98 (power: 0) | | | Evolution is a science, it involves biology. We have already seen evolution occur in insects during the past 100 years. The 2nd law of thermodynamics only applies to things that cannot create their own heat, so it does not apply to evolution.
As my late grandfather said, woe is the one who quetions the planets most brilliant minds.
As one of the few people I know that think very abstractly, I know for a fact that I can come up with some ideas that will work in a matter of seconds while it will take others an eternity. I can do calculus in my head, but I cannot understand art for the life of me. Some peopel can simply grasp these concepts better than others. No person should be condemned by another for believing something different from their own, as no two people have the same point of view. |

Reps: 467 (power: 0) | | | There are three groups of Creationists. The first are the party faithful who often are seen posting on internet message boards. These are invariably lay people who have done little to no science and quite simply are either incapable of understanding science or do not take the time to learn. This sounds cruel but it is a fact, these people could not figure out a scientific argument if their life depended upon it.
The second group are the writers of Creationist articles that actively push the cause but seem also to be clueless about science though several of these people claim a science background.
The third, and perhaps the most insidious group, are the Creationists who do have science in their backgrounds. This group should, and I think often do, know exactly that they are pushing falsehoods and are doing it either to line their pockets or think it is good for the faith to push Creationism even if it means bearing false witness to do so. Now many of this group have not been active scientists for years if ever but a few have them have. Some of them even publish work using old Earth timescales in one domain but directly contradict this in their Creationist work. This is undoubted deceit whether for profit or a spirtual crusade.
The one thing I have never seen, and I would call this group four, is I am waiting for a world leader in an applicable science putting forward and supporting a Creationist viewpoint. Even the Creationists who are in science are never world famous top of the line scientists. I am waiting for the equivalent of a Hawking, Rees, Weinberg, Gould, Glashow etc etc. Prediction, you wont see this happening. |

But that whole thing about "woe is the one who questions" sounds like he expects us to accept everything scientists say. That is blind faith. As a Rationalist, I hate blind faith. Whether it is blind religious faith, or blind faith in educated persons. I prefer to think for myself. *What I mean by "blind faith" is unquestioning faith in which one accepts something just because someone said so, whether there is any proof for it or not.

They really fooled us with that whole "television" thing, didn't they?
Truth is there really ARE little people living in your TV set! |

Plus the whole Roswell alien thing, the cure for AIDS, and the doomsday meteor which will hit Earth anytime between 3 days and 300 years (gross prophet margin).
Thousands of scientists across the globe are apparently competent enough to maintain a conspiracy against creationism for decades, yet aren't competent enough to understand the true anti-evolutionary nature of the 2nd law of thermodynamics.
