Sorry if this has been done, but I don't have time to read the whole thread. Here is my response to the OP:
Reason 1: The nature of scientific vs religious belief:...On the other hand, people become converts to religion because they think they see that it works, but are mistaken:
The idea that religious beliefs form a conglomeration of opinions that are untestable is simply not true. God of gaps all over again. This argument is worthless. Explaining something through the scientific method is fine...but such methods have nothing to say about the existence of God or the merit of religious belief systems. Most atheists would agree with that.
Reason 2: The nature of religious theories vs scientific ones:... In contrast, religious theories are accepted on the basis of the babblings of religious hermits who beat themselves bloody, refuse to wash, and -- small wonder -- haven't had sex for at least six weeks (OK, make that 40 days).
This is an idesputable argument? Its pure nonsense....crass and insulting as well. Shall we judge the merit of science theories by the psychological and sexual profile of the scientist as well? Please.
Reason 3: Religion's logical contradictions:...the Bible tells us that God "loves" each and every one, yet those who violate God's laws or don't believe in religious dogma are supposedly going to be sent to eternal Hellfire -- hardly an act of a loving God
This is strawman theology...and quite a dim and dated one at that. The theology tells us that there are simply natural consequences for poor choices and natural consequences for good choices. IOW, it is not God that sends us to 'hell'...hell is what we experience when we get what we want: the selfish existence. It is the punishment that we freely choose to inflict upon ourselves.
I love my children, and I want them to make only the best choices in their lives. But I can't force them to make the right choices...I can only do whatever I can to help them make the right choices. To do otherwise would mean to treat my child as a puppet...and that is hardly an act of love.
IOW, more nonsense.
Reason 4: Religion's incredible shrinking knowledge:...
Today, what religion "knows" can be contained in a pinhead, and generally is.
Same as reason 1...just regurgitated with different wording. This is completely irrelevant. As anyone with half a logical brain could tell you quite plainly.
Reason 5: Religion's immoral leaders:
If Hitler uses evolutionary theory to justify the holocaust, is this proof that evolution is false? Or is it simply proof that Hitler was a hateful racist?
0 for 5 so far.
I could go on and point out the flaws in all 12 of these supposedly 'indesputable Arguments' (a testimony to arrogance, BTW), but I will stop here.
Suffice to say that not even 1 of the 12 has any merit whatsoever.
Clearly the writer of this article is nothing more than a crass militant atheist whose logic is as percarious as the so-called 'science' of YEC. I sincerely hope than any atheist worth his salt would not be persuaded by such obvious nonsense.
