Surely this expert geologist is aware that one property that geologists use to classify rocks is relative hardness.

During the big golf opens, all the people stand at the edges of a fairway. when someone make a nice shot or putt, everyone does a polite clap. kinda like a tennis clap after someone scores. a wimbelton clap.
usually it is so quiet that a polite quiet clap can seem very loud.

In other words, read with attention, got done, and then politley clapped with the fingers of one hand into the palm of the other to show appreciation. its a good thing.

The 6000 year figure has nothing to do with the age of the earth. It has to do with the history of moden man as we know him today. The only valid arguement I know of againt the 6000 year figure is found in archeology study of man in the last 10,000 plus years. While 6000 years is a accepted date for the beginning of civilization and the modern world as we know it, some people have evidence that would suggest the modern world goes back maybe as far as 10,000 years.
