A lot of good advice but it will mean nothing to you unless you decide to do something about it. Somebody once said: A change is only a change when YOU change !!!
Proverbs 25:12 stipulates "Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, But a good word makes it glad."
Give your anxiety to Him, He wants it desperately !!!

When dealing with an issue like depression, the problem is that we often try to oversimplify and throw out some generic 'if you just have faith you'll be healed' line-- which technically is true but leaves out the necessary details to get from where we are to where we want God to take us. James said faith without corresponding action is dead. So let's look at some of the practical ways to apply your faith.
First... God deals with our WHOLE being-- body, soul (mind/emotions) and spirit. An issue like depression could be stemming from any one of these-- or any combination of these. There could be a physical/biological issue. There could be a mental/emotional issue. There could be a spiritual issue. It doesn't matter where the issue comes from, God has provide for us in every area.
If it is strictly a physical issue, it could be that one needs to take meds... or maybe just adjust your diet... Check with your doctor to find out if it is a medical issue. If so, follow your doctor's advice while believing for healing. In the OT, the prophet gave a prophetic word to the king.. "Put a poultice on the area and you will be healed." ( A prophecy to treat it medically.) Paul told Timothy to take a little wine for his stomach problem. (Again, a medical solution to bring the healing). Sometimes God works through doctors, sometimes in spite of doctors. Who cares, as long as the result is healing.
If it is a mental/emotional issue-- then get counseling. That is suppose to be part of the job of a pastor, but unfortunately many pastors are poorly equipped in this area. If your pastor is not comfortable counseling, then find a good Christian counselor in your area who can walk you through whatever issues may be there. You mentioned a lot of pressures from jobs, etc. Many times, just sitting down and discussing it with an objective person can help tremendously. Again, just another way God can bring healing.
Finally... if it is a spiritual issue, check yourself to be certain you are doing what you know to do, i.e. spending time in prayer, studying the Word, etc. Ask God to show you if there are areas of unforgiveness, etc. in your life-- and if so, repent. (Many times issues can come up in counseling that carry over to this area.) If you know that you are doing the basics and still feel that God is telling you it is spiritual in nature, consult with your pastor to see if deliverance is necessary. While I have ministered in deliverance numerous times, my experience has been that if we go through the previous things first, often deliverance is not necessary. As one finds the areas they are struggling with, and allow genuine repentance and forgiveness to come, any spiritual oppression that may have been there usually leaves on its own.

| | | Debbi,
I am first and foremost a believer and I think God is always the source of healing and peace in our lives. I am WoF as they get. Given that, let me suggest you go and see a professional counselor at a state or educational institution. Better, find one that is a Christian. I love CF and I know everyone here means the best for you... but if you have real problems in the area of depression, sometimes it is just a chemical thing in your brain that can be helped with medicine or diet. Sometimes it is something as simple as sugar intolerance. I know people who were down all the time until they stopped taking sugar in their diet. No more Pepsi, ice Cream, cake. Cut down carbs like bread, pasta, rice, etc... It is like a veil lifts from your mind. But a doctor will help you.
By saying you are depressed, you are admitting your "thinker" is not operating at 100%. Do not depend on it to help you figure out what to do. Find a free clinic, a counselor at school or work, or go to your family doctor. Once you get rid of the symptoms that are hindering you, then you will be in a better place to work towards a faith cure. Originally Posted by Debbi I used to listen to WOF preachers. A WoF preacher once said that if you quote 5 scripture on healing, 5 times a day you would be healed. Because you are telling God what he said and use Faith Filled words, name it claim it. It is a sin to use antidepressants or see a secular counselor or shows a lack of faith in God. Also, my pastor said that God does not heal depression, it is something I have to do. |
