I lost my health insurance:(

I found out yesterday that I have NO health insurance. Here's what happened.

I had insurance through the restaurant I work at...it was insanely expensive and they only paid up if you were about to die or something. I found out after paying for this insurance for a few months that all along I had been covered on my stepdad's insurance (Blue cross Blue shield). Basically, I'd been paying out the behind for coverage I didn't need since I was already covered...only no one bothered to tell me I was still covered under my parents' insurance. I cancelled my McDonald's insurance. Then, my mom told me my coverage got cancelled a few weeks ago. It's SO frustrating, and I can't afford that dinky McDonald's insurance. It's too expensive considering how little my paychecks are. I'm already making well below the poverty level. I'm just going to live without insurance for now I guess. I don't have much choice. I'm looking for a new job, but until I find one I'm just going to have to REALLY trust God to take care of me. I'm also starting school this summer...when I start school again would I be able to get back on my parents' insurance? I'm not sure how Blue Cross Blue Shield works. My mom said they weren't putting me back on so that question was probably pretty irrevelant...it's just been one thing after another lately.

I know the feeling. I lost MassHeatlh (free insurance for under-povertly level families) when I turned 19 1/2. I had no insurance until college, and I had to pay $545 for some junk insurance that covered only emergency type deals, and I finally got a job at a place and worked the required 3 months, and I was eligable for insurance when the jerk, I mean, my boss, fired me. So, I have to wait another 3 months just to get health insurance at this other job I got. I won't have insurance until probably May, and I have a few medical issues like acid reflux, a possible ulcer, and possibly sleep apnea, and I also get muscle spasms. So, it really sucks to get screwed over; I know the feeling.

I don't have health insurance either, or a job for that matter........is there a medical reason that you need it right now?

I lost mine too when they changed from a PPO to private insurance and the premiums more than doubled. I heard a while back that at least 15% of people do not have health insurance.

Is there a teaching hospital near you? They almost always have a clinic that you could go to either at a reduced cost or that will allow you to make payments. Since you have to pay it yourself you can't always afford to go for minor things a lot. But if you really need to see a doctor, it might be an option.

Praying for you.

Many hospitals will 'write off' the medical bills of folks at or below certain income levels. They usually post the income guidelines on a tiny 5x7 piece of paper. If in doubt, call or visit the billing department and ask them for more information. It usually involves an application and if I remember correctly a copy of the last tax return filed, proof of income, etc..

Please don't let lack of medical insurance stop you from seeking treatment.

if u need to see a doctor, go to a ER, or call a ambulance, in emergencies, having health insurance is irrevalent. should that happen, they'll get social services to help u out someway or another, God won't leave ya stranded. until then, it's prolly easiest on u til u wait to be put back on ur rent's insurance.

[Episode Prophecy Girl from Season 1]

Buffy: "So here's the part where you make a choice: What if you could have that power... now? In every generation, one slayer is born... because a bunch of men who died thousands of years ago made up that rule. They were powerful men. This woman is more powerful than all of them combined. So I say we change the rule. I say my power... should be our power. Tomorrow, Willow will use the essence of the scythe to change our destiny. From now on, every girl in the world who might be a slayer... will be a slayer. Every girl who could have the power... will have the power... can stand up, will stand up. Slayers... every one of us. Make your choice. Are you ready to be strong?"

They'll also send you a fat bill which will affect your credit if you don't pay it.

That's exactly what they will do.....my credit was totally screwed up by a $500 hospital bill......This summer will make the 7 years and it'll finally be off of my credit report. I have not been able to get a loan or a cell phone without someone else signing up for it even though I have a substantial amount of money in the bank now. I still can't get a credit card. It stinks, but you do have to do what you need to to take care of yourself.
