Bush gives 16 billion to Africa: Was it really Necessary?

Do you understand this?? Between 1980 and 2000, AFrica gained 274 million people, the population of the United States. My god, why are we sending these people 16 billion dollars to help them breed faster? It's sheer insanity. They need to stop having sex, seriously.

And this in spite of a 40% aids rate in many African countries.

It is a fairly large mess... It already is a disaster and it will get worse before it gets better. Throwing money at them won't make the problem go away, granted it will help treat the symptoms. Starvation and disease are already rampant in many areas, the exploding population will only make it worse as they struggle to feed that many people.

Hate to sound so pessimistic but there really is no easy solution. It's going to take decades before the situation gets any better. Best bet is to just try and stall it until we figure out how to help them fix it.

378 million to 652 million in 20 years is just under 2.8% annual growth. Not entirely unreasonabale, nor uncommon for underdeveloped people-groups.

Stop having sex? So you would propose preventing them from procreating, and creating progeny? Are you aware that in their world, survival farming is the only means of remaining alive? Without children, they have no help with herding their cattle, or gathering and processing food. They can't run down to the supermarket. Children are a vital part of their individual survival, and the only means of cultural survival. If they stop having sex, then they have no children, and eliminate their entire culture.

Are you suggesting that they are so worthless that they do not deserve to survive?

Well then, there's your solution. Just let AIDS continue to run rampant, and your population concerns are solved from within.

An increase in food supply inevitably causes an increase in population whether or not said population was already starving. This is an inevitable law of nature it seems. (source) The solution to hunger in Africa in the long run is not to keep sending them food but to control the population and find a renewable food source. Sex education can help with the immediate AIDs issue and the long term hunger problems. Though it is more satisfying to just send them food and feed those that are hungry today, in the end it may be creating more of a problem.

Anyways, that is just what I know about the situation. I have no clue where Gerbil got his statistics.
