Top Saudi Muslim Cleric says....

I wouldn't want a gem like this to get
forgotten in all the coverage about a
stampede.

I guess we can take it for what it says:

Also of note in the article:

Fatima Farouk, a Nigerian who was performing the hajj for the first time, said that despite the demanding journey, she was thrilled "because after Mount Arafat, you're almost promised heaven."

Buck72 is on a distinguished road
In a sermon that was remarkable not only for its strong language but also its timing - at the peak of the annual hajj - Sheik Abdul Aziz al-Sheik told 2 million pilgrims that terrorists were giving their enemies an excuse to criticize Muslim nations.
"Is it holy war to shed Muslim blood? Is it holy war to shed the blood of non-Muslims given sanctuary in Muslim lands? Is it holy war to destroy the possession of Muslims," he said

Hey you know, I forgot to mention, when I first heard about this, I immediately thought, "Bill Clinton!"

So tonight, let us ask ourselves – if our children should live to see the next century; if my daughters should be so lucky to live as long as Ann Nixon Cooper, what change will they see? What progress will we have made?

This is our chance to answer that call. This is our moment. This is our time – to put our people back to work and open doors of opportunity for our kids; to restore prosperity and promote the cause of peace; to reclaim the American Dream and reaffirm that fundamental truth – that out of many, we are one; that while we breathe, we hope, and where we are met with cynicism, and doubt, and those who tell us that we can’t, we will respond with that timeless creed that sums up the spirit of a people:

Yes We Can. "

First comment is that if you bother reading anything about orthodox Islam, the jihad has several meanings: (1) The requirement on the individual to "wage war" on the rebellious part of oneself that sets oneself in the place of God; (2) The right of Moslems to defend the right of Moslems to worship freely by waging war against those who would prevent them from doing so; (3) The right of Moslems to undertake self-defense; (4) the right of Moslems to defend those non-Moslem "People of the Book" who have been given refuge in Moslem lands. Christians and Jews, and in some readings Zoroastrians, are Peoples of the Book -- those to whom God's revelation has been given (though in their view not as fully as to Moslems, since they do not accept the truths contained in the Koran).

Just as good Christians condemn those who engage in willful killing of others in the belief that Jesus approves of such violence, good Moslems are supposed to condemn terrorism. In its own way, Wahhabism is quite parallel to Southern Baptist belief -- a strongly conservative perspective that the truths contained in Holy Writ call on the individual to live a highly moral life and insist that those around them do likewise, a call to minister to the needy, and to proclaim the truth of their particular understanding of the faith to all who will hold still and listen to it.

I am not suggesting that Islam is right, but trying to place the concepts they have in a context that will be clearer to American Christians.

And I personally strongly regret that 244 people who believed themselves to be fulfilling a commandment from God were killed in the process of doing so -- regardless if they were misled in their beliefs.

And if you believe that, you'll believe anything.

Bottom line is that not every Muslim is a fundy. The guys who go around killing other Muslims (and anyone else who catches their eye) are the vocal miniority.

They are not representative of the whole.

You're right. Never a good thing to rejoice in the fall of one's enemy. Islam is the enemy, but the Muslim people themselves are not.

Still unusual to see dead Muslims on TV, mostly there are only dead non-Muslims, killed for not converting to Islam.

Our PC press is more concerned about protecting the rights of terrorists than they are advocating the freedom of non-terrorists. The fact that this enrages me is not "un-christian", rather my response in un-Christ like.

Thanks for the correction, but please see that the issue is Islam verses non-Islam. These godless mongols will stop at nothing to destroy you and everything you hold dear if it advances their purpose.

Everyone that loves Islam HATES everything that Christ stands for.
