Have you ever heard of Agile? They make some great low price guitars. I know several friends who have them and they love them. Some are under $100. The especially like the "Les Paul" knock offs. They run a little more, but are EXCELLENT quality.

If you want to stick with BIG name brands the Mexican Fender Strat and Teles would be a good choice and can be bought new in the $350 range.
Yamaha makes a nice Pacifica that can be had for about $169.
The Ibanez S series has a low end model that is pretty good.
if your going to buy a guitar, buy one thats going to play well for years, get a fender strat for somewhere in the $500 range or up and you will have a great guitar. I got a guitar that was like $150 and now its a pile of junk. never stayed in tune. i always say you get what you pay for.

No matter what guitar you buy it's going to be associated with some secular group.I don't think I would worry about that symbolizm thing.Buy what sounds good and plays good.A strat is by far the best guitar for your money it won't depriciate in value and you'll have it for years to come.By an American strat though about $800.You can find one cheaper probably in musicians friend. They also have a scratch and dent section where you can get great deals if you don't mind a little scratch here or there. This is there web site off course I'm not able to give you the whole web site cause of the rules on here but I think you know what to do add www to it
I have a Stratstyle guitar... Cort G200... you can check them out at cort.com... I love the guitar.. looks just like a Fender Strat, great sound, beautiful guitar
id go for that strat...i dunno but i like the Squier by Fender Strat better then the Fender ones... i dunno...
About 10 years ago I played some nice Squiers but lately all the Squires I've seen look and feel really cheap. I don't share your enthusiasm for the Squier line.
Good morning, I have been dissapointed in the latest Squires.. bolt on necks won't stay in tune... If that Strat is a 'neck through' BUY IT!! The best new guitar i have played that is reasonable is a PRS Santana. It is beautiful and worth the extra money.
