Post Romans

Hey all who read this!

I'm starting to write a piece in brief regarding the book of Romans! This sounds like a big undertaking, but I don't expect to finish this for years to come! On average I've found I cover about 5 verses a week... Hmmm....

Just asking if anyone has any thoughts/views on Romans that I can look at, and if possible try and incorporate into my study... An doctrines that you have heard of that have been taken from Romans, any ideas that you feel are important that come up in Romans, even your favourite verse from the book...

Anything would be appreciated,

Your thanks, and God Bless...

Kyzar

Gee, no small request...

I wrote a series of papers on Romans a couple years ago. Some of the major themes are salvation through faith, grace, obedience, the revelation of God through nature, the consequences of rejecting God, and so on and so on. There are a lot of great books about this book. You might start by looking at some of those.

Thanks Lambslove... I've read through Romans numerous times, and I've made notes etc, and written comments that I myself have found... I've studied this personally to discover the ideas without reading through the commentaries first, rather reading them l8a to clear up issues that have arisen...

Thank-you for your input!!! I am at present rereading Romans and was hoping for exactley what you gave me, some main themes etc. to read up on in particular... Thank-fully your themes etc have also affirmed some of the ideas that i have gotten out of Romans so far, so again thanking you v. much...

Don't skip the most important chapters concerning God's plan as some "expositors" do...

Romans 9: Israel's PAST
Romans 10: Israel's PRESENT
Romans 11: Israel's FUTURE

These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. (Act 17:11 KJV)
In other words; don't believe anything you are told, without searching the scriptures daily... yourself.

Not those three chapter specifically...

The main content is expounding why God choose Israel and what they were (Chapter 9)... What was happening to the nation during the ACTS period and why they are failing (Chapter 10)... and Paul is reminding us that Israel HAS a future (Chapter 11)...
Rom 9:1-5 KJV
(1) I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost,
(2) That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart.
(3) For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh:
(4) Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises;
(5) Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.
..........Dealing with Isreal's past and WHO from that nation pertains the"adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises" made to the Fathers.
Rom 10:18-21 KJV
(18) But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.
(19) But I say, Did not Israel know? First Moses saith, I will provoke you to jealousy by them that are no people, and by a foolish nation I will anger you.
(20) But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me.
(21) But to Israel he saith, All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people.
..........Dealing with Israel's present condition AND begins to explain the reasoning WHY God sent salvation to the gentiles. As Moses said: "by a foolish nation (the gentiles) i will anger you" AND "by them that are no people (gentiles) i will provoke you to jealousy". - This is what was happening at that time.
Rom 11:1-3 KJV
(1) I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.
(2) God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel, saying,
(3) Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life.

Rom 11:7-8 KJV
(7) What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded
(8) (According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear unto this day.

Rom 11:11 I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy.

Rom 11:13-14 KJV
(13) For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office:
(14) If by any means I may provoke to emulation them which are my flesh, and might save some of them.
..........Finally,,, Paul is saying Israel has a future AND that they were blinded by God AND because of that fall, salvation was given to the gentiles, to provoke Israel to jealousy (provoke to emulation)...
Rom 11:15 For if the casting away of them (Israel) be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them (Israel) be, but life from the dead?
..........Future!!

I hope that helps...

For dispensationalists like @@Paul@@, it deals with Israel. For the rest of us it doesn't.

Thanks for the explaination...

Those chapters are not really dealing with anything... they are explaining the past/present and future condition of Israel.
Rom 9:1-4 KJV
(3) For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh:
(4) Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises;
Maybe you'd like to explain how "my kinsmen according to the flesh" AND those "Who are Israelites" deal with Gentiles...

.....please don't say "to" and "for"
