A Catholic Bible in India.....

If I didn't know this guy and couldn't vouch for him, I'd say he was full of it and it was another attempt to spread an anti-catholic lie. But, here goes and this is what I was told.

I have a Southern Baptist friend, who at first was vehemently anti-catholic and tried to save me, but after lengthy discussions he has given up and has admitted that I know Jesus and some of the stuff he was told about Catholics is wrong.

ANYWAY, he went to India last month for 13 days on a missionary trip. He said he ran into a very small number of Catholics and when his group told them that Jesus was their savior, one of the alleged Catholics showed him an alleged Catholic Bible and this verse, Acts 4:12. My friend said that this verse read as follows:

"And there is salvation in no one else, for Mary is the name given among men by which we must be saved."

Now, like I said, this guy isn't going to lie to me. First off, he had to see my "Catholic Bible." I read out of the New American Bible which says this:

"There is no salvation through anyone else, nor is there any other name under heaven given to the human race by which we are to be saved." Verse 10 talks about Jesus and this is what this verse refers to.

First, I questioned if these folks were really Catholic. Second, someone is distributing an obvious faulty translation. So, my question to those who have read my rambling is twofold:

1) Is the Church doing a poor job overseas instructing the faith to where someone would accept this faulty translation?

2) Or have I been deceived and my friend is full of it?

Hey KC! Gave up "Rapture Ready" for Lent and have no intentions of going back!
