Enabling Financial Irresponsibility

Its too the point of resentment now. My coworker is financial irresponsible. She asks to borrow money all the time. Sometimes $20, a couple times $500 and once $1000!. I have always said no except when it has been $2 or $4. My boss has given her 6 payroll advances in 1 year (3 of them in 1 week!). She doesn't have much work to do. I don't know why he does it! She is funny, personally I like her, but the finances is REALLY getting to me! Today, she claims she ran out of gas in front of the office and has no money to get some.

Her car got repoed and I took her to work a couple times and finally told my boss I couldn't anymore. He then gave her a company car to use until she got a new one. I'm a single mom, I have enough responsibilities. Should I talk to my boss? EVERY week it is something new. I can't go on anymore because I'm getting mad again.

What is she spending her money on? Is she into drugs or something? I'd say if it's something she needs counseling or help of that sort with, talk to her and tell her you're willing to emotionally support her as she gets counseling or something but tell her as a single mom that you've got a responsibility to financially support your family and you can't afford to bail her out anymore without your family suffering from it.

If she's a friend, she'll understand, if she's not, she shouldn't be asking you for money anyway. I'd say have a talk with her first and see if that stops it before you go talk to the boss.
