Jrayy thanks for your input. I didn't know that the HCSB was an SBC product. Most I know either use the NIV, KJV, or NKJV.
If you don't mind me asking, where do you attend seminary?
Blessings,
Justin
I attend Seminary at Ashland Theological Seminary. I do this for licenseing reasons regarding counseling. I would have attened Southern Baptist Theological Seminary for their Pastoral Counseling Program but they changed it around and it doesn't support state licenseing, especially the strict requirements here is Ohio |

Oh, that's cool
I applied to and was accepted at Southeastern Baptist Seminary but decided to wait and pay off some of my undergrad loans.

Reps: 10 (power: 0) | | | yeah I understand paying off undergrad loans. I am in the process of doing that. My problem is that I have tried to find a ministry job here in Ohio and can't find one. No one is hiring for any staff position. It is very frustrating that I have to work in a retail store and make minimal amounts of money.
What program were you going into at Southern?
Good to meet you. |

Yeah, if you are our age the only position you can usually get is youth pastor. I pray that the Lord opens doors of opportunity for you.
I had planned on pursuing a MDiv in their Advanced Biblical Studies track but now I'm looking at other degrees at some other seminaries and graduate schools.
I've lived in North Carolina the majority of my life and I'd like to live out of state again like I did in college. I'm looking at some MA in Theological Studies or Historical Theology.
Blessings,
Justin

I guess you've got your compact by now?
The ESV offers some really beatifully designed covers in their compact designs - I gave them as Christmas gifts last year.
For what it's worth, both the ESV and HCSB came about when the NIV ran into some updating controvery. The SBC particularly wanted something of their own that they had a bit more inflence over and could trust would not be altered too far from SBC considerations. |

I read that the HCSB-2000 new translation is based on USB4 also.

God bless you,

I go to a Southern Baptist Convention church and we use Bible Study materials from "Lifeway". They are quoting the KJV and the HCSB in parallel.

The inside states the textual base for the NT is the Nestle-Aland, 27th ed. and the United Bible Societies' Greek NT, 4th ed. The OT is the Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia, 5th ed.
No ESV yet. It's on it's way. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | | | |
