So the Charlotte Catholic school has set the meeting for Wed.

Since the other thread has been closed I thought I would update those that are interested.

Charlotte Catholic High calls meeting for parents after uproar over speech

Charlotte Catholic High School has invited parents to a meeting Wednesday night to air concerns many of them – and their kids – had about a recent speaker’s comments about homosexuality, divorce and single parents.

Sister Jane Dominic Laurel, a Dominican nun based in Nashville, Tenn., addressed a student assembly on March 21. Days later, some students launched an online petition that called her comments “offensive and unnecessarily derogatory.”

The Rev. Tim Reid, pastor of St. Ann Catholic Church, sent an email lauding the nun, saying “she represented well the Catholic positions on marriage, sex, same-sex attraction and proper gender roles … The Church has already lost too many generations of Catholic schools students to … a very muddled and watered-down faith.”

No, it’s more than that. It’s a justification, an excuse, for not helping each other and those outside the Church fall in love with Jesus Christ. Matthew Chapter 7

The problem is that probably 50% of the kids in the school aren't Catholic. But, still.... it's a Catholic school. If you don't want your kids to be taught Catholic values send them to some other school.

I wonder how offensive and derogatory she was. Especially considering the reaction.

How offensive and derogatory are Catholics allowed to be normally?
Do Catholic nuns or teachers have to be less offensive and derogatory?

Do you get a free pass on being offensive and derogatory as long as what is said is in-line with church teaching?

We don't know that she was yet. No good priest or nun sets out to be offensive or derogatory.

I hope the nun and the people who support her hold firm. Doctrine isn't up for popular vote. It stays true whether you agree with it or not.

I have not been able to find a copy of what she said

the different accounts seem to be greatly conflicting

can anybody actually FIND what she had to say?
