Bush admits there's no WMDs in Iraq

the major justification for the war on Iraq was their supposed posession of WMD's, but now even Bush Jr himself has admitted that there are none....

http://www.theage.com.au/articles/20...337159388.html

The existence of the weapons was Mr Bush's justification for the war. But this week, he essentially wrote off the weapons hunt. Asked whether Saddam had only an intention to get WMD and did not actually have any, Mr Bush replied: "What's the difference?" and added: "If he were to acquire weapons, he would be the danger."

Makes you wonder what the real reason was.

Éclairé will become famous soon enough
If he were to acquire weapons, he would be the danger.
Another justification to wage a preemtive, preemptive war - to prevent the need for a preemptive war in case saddam ever became a threat to become a threat to us.

the hawks, of course, would say that he could get them, and if he were to get these hypothetical WMDs, he could sell them to the hypothetical terrorists with whom he has hypothetically had a relationship.

As foreign policy, of course, that's insane, because it could apply just as well to tons of other countries (Iran, Syria, Sudan, Pakistan, North Korea). It's clearly not foreign policy, but a post hoc rationalization.

You two keep patting each other on the back. The existence of WMDs was never the main justification. But facts don't count, I'm sure. M

I just said the justification (unless it changed again yesterday): Iraq could get WMDs at some unspecified time in the future. Right? Look, if someone can boil the rationale of the war down to one or two sentences, I'd be quite grateful, because most of the time it takes as long as the actual war took to explain why we were there in the first place.

You mean to tell me that when Bush addressed the nation talking about the threat Saddam was to America, that wmd's were not the reason? What then? We only changed focus to liberation a few weeks in...

The title for this thread is quite disingenuous. Same old, same old spin.

Huh? Since when? WMD was the only legal justification. WMD was the only reason that a majority of congress supported the President. WMD was the only thing on the table at the UN.
So please tell us, Michael, just what are you talking about?

I can't believe Kay would leave before completing the job...

inspecting the other 120 sites which he hasn't inspected...

locating the WMDs which are either in those sites/buried under the sand/in Iraq/in Syria/on Mars...
