The twitterverse is alive with tweets about Justice Scalia’s headgear for today’s inauguration. At the risk of putting all the fun speculation to an end . . . The hat is a custom-made replica of the hat depicted in Holbein’s famous portrait of St. Thomas More. It was a gift from the St. Thomas More Society of Richmond, Virginia. We presented it to him in November 2010 as a memento of his participation in our 27th annual Red Mass and dinner.
Wearing the cap of a statesman who defended liberty of church and integrity of Christian conscience to the inauguration of a president whose policies have imperiled both: Make of it what you will. Justice Scalia wears replica of St. Thomas More's hat to inauguration...

He's what I make of it:
A Supreme Court justice is so corrupt he is actually espousing a politically view openly in public.
So much for the impartiality of the judiciary.
St. Thomas More would be appalled. |

Nah! Don't think so. St. Thomas More would not back down from his beliefs even when it meant death. Perhaps Obama needs that reminder that there are some who are not able to be bullied. Afterall, Obama had taken the opportunity at a State of the Union address to personally go after the co-equal Judicial Branch. He told some untruths about them all the while knowing that they could not even defend themselves.

If you remember your history Thomas More resigned his post.
Perhaps Justice Scalia needs that reminder that if you're going to hold to your personal beliefs you don't get to keep your cushy government job.
Especially if you're sworn to be impartial. |

Only if you subject all those holding cushy government jobs to the same standards!

Actually I do.
I have advocated from years that county clerks who feel that issuing marriage certificates to same sex couples is something they cannot do because of their religious beliefs should quit.
If you can't uphold the laws that your suppose to uphold it's time to find another job. |

St. Thomas upheld the right of Parliment to define civil marriage, give the King a divorce and declare Mary Tudor a bastard under law.
Because of his reasonableness, his opposition to the King spliting the English Church from Rome was more threatening to the King than the radical Catholics. Hence the maryterdom of this saint who said yes the State could redefine marriage. |

Maybe all those clerks back in the 50's should have quit when Blacks and whites could not be issued a marriage certificate.
Blacks who dared drink off a white water fountain and/or dare to sit at a lunch counter or take a seat at the front of the bus.
I think your argument crumbles Charlie. St. Augustine and Martin Luter King Jr, said: An immoral law, is no law at all
Just food for thought.
