It is the opposite of loving act. But the movie wants us to believe that pushing the last breath out of someone you love is compassion and mercy and heroism. It isn’t. It is a failure in every way in which one person could fail another. Twisted Oscar Amour...

You forget. This is written by a Catholic & posted in a Catholic forum for practicing Catholics.
According to Church teaching this is strictly forbidden. Regardless of the secular view or this film maker's disturbing & bleak signature style.

Does it matter? Catholics know it's against teaching. This is not a Catholic film and Haneke is not a Catholic filmmaker.
And even if he was, does that ban him from raising moral dilemmas?
I've known too many couples where one partner had Altzheimer's to condemn this sort of thing as unloving. Immoral and forbidden by Catholic teaching, sure, but euthanasia is not an act of hate.

Did you read the article? It seems you didn't. And even if he was, does that ban him from raising moral dilemmas?
No it doesn't but the point is how the academy predictably votes for these nominations. I've known too many couples where one partner had Altzheimer's to condemn this sort of thing as unloving. Immoral and forbidden by Catholic teaching, sure, but euthanasia is not an act of hate.
It may not be in the secular view but we are discussing this from a Catholic pov.
