Michael Rood and the Rood Awakening

Hi all,

I have a friend who has fallen head over heels in love with this guys teachings and has shown me several videos which at first seem interesting and have some depth to the information and teaching.

I am a bit pushed for time in looking into this so thought you might be able to fast-track a few help and hints....I have a slight uneasiness in my spirit, but don't want to be too hyper-critical.

The 3 things that sort of stuck in my craw concerned:-

1. Apparent translations of Matthew that were hidden in Russia and thrown new light onto some difficult passages as they are in original Hebrew...connected with Shem Tov in the 1400's.

2. He seems to be a fan of the discredited Ron Wyatt

3. Has invented his own time-scale and says even the Jewish calendar is not the true one, therefore working out prophetic sign-posts is inaccurate.

My experience as a Believer sees warning lights flashing, and as I said, my spirit is uneasy....but I love my friends enthusiasm and am reluctant to express just yet why I am reluctant to embrace these teachings as a whole.

Thanks for any help...apols if this has come up before.

Zazal

Michael Rood promotes himself as a "messianic karaite rabbi"... "The Reverend Michael John Rood ", "Rabbi", "Rabbi Michael Rood" or "Messianic rabbi (teacher) Michael Rood", "Messianic Kairite Rabbi" (he and Judith joined the Kairite movement, which rejects the NT and Yeshua as the Messiah), "Messianic Jewish Rabbi, " “honorary mohel”, Torah Observant" Messianic or Jewish Messianic (he was not born Jewish), a "Levite" (he's not of the levitical priesthood), living as a levite, Baptist minister (he was not), a former Baptist minister , a rabbi, "I am a Jewish follower of the Jewish Messiah", Gentile, "Christian teacher", prophet...Bible teacher, marine sergeant, author, lecturer, and professional Bible instructor for more than thirty years... all the above names were over time....... as he shifted from position to position.. audience to audience..

This is one case where I am going to let Easy give you more than enough reasons to have an uneasy spirit about his teachings... which are of the replacement Two House/Lost Tribes/Ephraim theology type.. depending upon audience...

As to the aspect of refuting... you will just have to find out what your friend is hearing, so you know where to begin. May I suggest not refuting your friend's hero, but agree with what you can and lead in study more on the straight path and let him determine the off trail stuff himself... thus weaning himself from this convoluted material.

One of the things you will find out on this board is that anything deemed 2 house is discredited in many eyes here before they hear anything else. They have a faulty notion that 2 house and replacement theology are the same, despite abundant proof to the contrary.

Michael Rood has a lot of good information, and geared to teach those new to the messianic movement. My main problems with him today began with the Matthew book also. He became affiliated with Nehemiah Gordon and Keith Johnson, who now have written several books alone and together.

Michael Rood has several teachings against the false doctrines of Judaism and the church. Nehemiah Gordon, an orthodox turned karaite rabbi, no longer follows rabbinic tradition, but does not believe in Yeshua (Jesus) and Keith Johnson is a Methodist minister with no plans to leave the church system.

As for the Jewish calendar, we know it is off because it was written without means of updating it over the years, and the rabbis would not touch it. Whether Rood's is more accurate, only time will tell. As the biblical year was intended to begin with a visual sign (barley in abib) instead of a calculated date, his should be more accurate as to which month is the first if they differ.

This guy is a wackadoodle. I would stay well clear.

But, if you are already a hater of traditions, he might be right up your alley.

As to the Shem Tov Matthew, try these:

Michael Rood has a lot of good information, and geared to teach those new to the messianic movement.
Michael Rood like James Trimm were members of The Way international, and carry forward some of the false teachings of this cultic group.

While I have mentioned Rood and Trimm, both claim to be Jewish but are not Jewish.

Rood in particular, predicted that the 'day of the Lord' would begin in the year 2000. false.

Rood again predicted 2001, since he said he recalculated and found the Hebrew calendar in error by 1 year. Again false.

He then found that the New Year was not Rosh Hashanah but on Nissan 1, so he predicted the day of the Lord was actually 6 months later then his second prediction. Again false.

And then he predicted the 'day of the Lord' to be in October of 2002.
And then he predicted the 'day of the Lord' to be October 2003.

Rood renounced Christianity as pagan and of the devil, and anyone who is a part of Christianity is in the house of satan.

Two house is a grave error, but that is one of the lessor of Roods problems.

Best advice: Listen to your own spirit. And gently lead your friend to someone else to get as excited about. Feel free to PM and I'll be happy to pass along a few suggestions.
I agree with your assessment of Rood. A bad meal that's gonna come back up eventually.

Before listening to the negative things written here about Michael Rood I would take a little more time to listen to what he has to say. I think you will be blessed. You spirit feeling uneasy is not a true indicator of if something is right or wrong. The things Michael Rood teaches are life changing as they require a change. I went from Sunday worship to keeping Sabbath, etc but it has been such a gift to be able to follow Yehovah more closely. I just don't want you to miss out on the incredible blessings I have found and it started with a few videos from Michael Rood almost 15 years ago.
