I was just browsing through the topics in this part of the forum and I was wondering how many of those who are non christians on here used to actually be a christian (or catholic etc).
I myself used to be a christian, or at least I tried to. Kinda how I found this site in the first place back in like 05 or something. Interested to know
I would also be interested to see how many christians in here used to belong to other faiths.
Raised Catholic, Protestant during my teens. Fallouts with the church and subsequently I was kicked out of the social sphere around 18, found renewed faith elsewhere around age 19.
That's the super short story!

Thanks for sharing your story! I have heard of quite a few pagans who went through something similar.
Your avatar is extremely awesome by the way!

I couldn't help noticing the part about the church...Now...
No church and no community can tell you how to behave. The Bible tells you how to behave fullstop.

If you dont mind me asking, what called you to your current faith from atheism?

Hard to explain. It be more of personal experiences that I couldn't quite explain. Then I did some research on Christianity and saw that that seemed to be more like me.
That was kinda it...

Thanks! Yeah, it seems to be fairly common. Alienation definitely can enforce people's desire to find a less rigid belief system.

Sure the Bible has very strict and specific rules of behavior, but those are also socio-culturally applied within the context of the group you are in. I know some church, for example, take dress code very seriously and will not allow women to wear anything but dresses. Whereas others may be supporters of Theistic Evolution and prefer to understand the Bible through scientific application.
Of course, these are broad and far-reaching examples of belief that don't even touch on behavior but in a word let's just say "the people ruined it for me".

And that is what I mean. The Bible says that women should dress modestly (at the time it meant that women ould wear a dree, today it means, don't walk around half-naked)
The Bible does set some rules, however when the community decides what the rules are and how they will be implemented, that is wrong.

I think the difficulty is that a lot of the rules were a reflection of the culture of the time and people find it hard to determine what is still applicable and what is not.
