My depression isn't seasonally affective, but I know other who suffer. I've heard that daylight simulating lightbulbs can help - don't know whether you've tried that.
Praying for you

Thanks Criada, I think I will have to plan this week very carefully. The problem is that I don't seem to be able to do the planning. I will talk to God about it, tell him how down I feel ...

I started to use my light box today. The depression suddenly hit me and I have had to struggle to come so far as to be able to use the light box.

Whether seasonally effected or not, I think we all can benefit from full spectrum lighting. I think I've found a good source. I placed an order, but I think it was held up in shipping because of weather. As soon as I receive it, if the product seems to be of good quality, I will let you know.
Blessings,

Thanks for your answer! I'm trying to force myself to do things. The worst part of it, however, is that people notice the sadness in my face. Instead of saying "hi" or "hello" they look at me as if I am some sort of ghost or something. Then they turn away. It may take me a huge amount of willpower to, as an example, go to Church. To be met in such a way make the depression worse. It make me feel like garbage.
I have to think about if I can find some tools inside myself to cope with this. In the meantime I have only this prayer to say: Dear God, please help people to understand that a smile to a depressed person might be like medicine to that person and of great help to cope with the condition. Amen.

Have you received it, yet, miss-a?
(Mine help me to get lifted a bit up, but it doesn't take away the depression. I still have to struggle to keep the head "above the water").
Good luck and God bless!

I find that praying seems to be one of the only things that I can do when I'm at extreme lows, and sometimes even that I don't feel like doing cuz I kinda get frustrated at/with God for allowing it to happen.
I also hate going to church when I'm depressed because like you say it's hard for people who don't have depression to understand and they think that I'm mad or upset at them when I don't go an greet them or when they see me look so glum or something its just too frustrating.
I also like listening to sad music that makes me cry, that helps me and gives me a emotional release that I need. If the song has some resonance of eternity in it, it helps me reconnect with God as well.
It's funny I thought your name was greensleeves when I saw it, greensleeves is the song that I listened to that made me want to buy my first guitar 5 years ago. That's a good song, I wish I could post it but it won't let me unless I have 50 posts. Oh well. |

Thanks for answering and for the laugh! When I chose "Greenleaves" it had something to do with hope. Even if I feel down, I will in a place deep within preserve hope even when I feel hopeless: "Leaves are the powerhouse of plants. In most plants, leaves are the major site of food production for the plant. Structures within a leaf convert the energy in sunlight into chemical energy that the plant can use as food." (Google "Leaves and Leaf Anatomy" if you want to know more). Greensleeves is a beautiful melody, as you said, but there are some myths about the text: From Wikipedia: "One possible interpretation of the lyrics is that Lady Green Sleeves was a promiscuous young woman and perhaps a prostitute. At the time, the word "green" had sexual connotations, most notably in the phrase "a green gown", a reference to the way that grass stains might be seen on a woman's dress if she had engaged in sexual intercourse out-of-doors." That's what made me laugh: The last thing I was thinking about was something sinful when I chose my nickname. Who could have known that "green" had another meaning in former days? I found out now, when googling for "greensleeves". Well, let us leave that behind and continue to concentrate about seasonal depression. It's a terrible thing. I have given myself a lot of rest since the winter-depression started. I have also used a light-box for my depression these days. I'm still depressed, as I wrote in another post. But as far as I can say, I think I feel a tiny bit better. I don't expect the depression to go completely away, only come down to a level where it is possible to cope with it. Again, thanks for answering! To get a response for someone when one is deep down, has a good effect. God bless!
