Where to study about the culture and times when Jesus was alive

Ive been told you have to put the bible in context with the times. So where can I go to get some back ground info of those times?

Also, I attend a baptist church and love the atmosphere. However why are baptists so sure once saved always saved? The bible says only those who do the will of god will enter the kingdom. But it also says once your saved god never lets you go... Not in those exact words but close to it. Anyways my questions may seem trival but the confusion is bugging me.

Q1: Check out Gower, New Manners & Customs of Bible Times.

Q2: The Bible says that those who believe in Jesus have Eternal Life. Read John 10:26-29. Both Jesus and the Father have us in His grip. No one can snatch us out of those hands!

I have really appreciated the chaplains here. The rest of the site is full of biblical warfare, and can be very discouraging at times.
