Intercession Tutoring

Hi I'm just wondering if there are any Intercessors out there that would like to help me grow in my intercession gifting.

I have been told I'm a warrior but I certainly don't feel very warrior like! Lol! I would love to become what was prophesied over me though.

Any advice or prayer would be great!

Id also just like to fellowship and discuss these things with anyone sharing the same gifting...

I don't know if I have the same gifting but see "prayer requests" everyday all day.

But would enjoy discussing this subject. What are some topics would you like to discuss?

I have some thoughts on these but would like to discuss -
Do we pray Scripture based on the need? How do we offer to pray for someone you don't know? What does pray without ceasing mean to us?

I think praying scripture is a huge tool. I mean Jesus Himself used scripture against Satan when He was being tempted didn't He.

It also seems a good idea to go with scripture because God gave us these words and Gods Word never returns empty.

There's also the benefit of knowing what you're praying is biblical and in tune with the Spirit.

What do you think?

The best placeto start is to simply seek God.

Scripture is always useful and gives us some idea of the nature of God.

Have a look at the prayers already within the bible. You may also find working through the psalms helpful as these come from human hearts in all their hope, worry and ugliness and range in what they cover penitance to praise.

Learn to listen. Listening to God is something that can be easily neglected.

Every time we pray for someone we are acting as an Intercessor, whether or not it is requested by the receipient or of our own compassion. I believe we are all called to this Duty as christians as much as "gathering together" or Baptism or tithing or any other ministry. We can not consider ourselves christian if we do not participate in praying for our leaders, the unsaved or our christian familes.

I agree that Psalms is a great place to start to see how to pattern these actions. David knew two things..how to pray and how to repent..and He was likened a "man after God's own heart". I would like to hear from others who have made this a part of their regular prayer/ministry routines.

Nita Edwards is a woman I have met (and joked around with), and have much respect for. She was the founder of Asia Alive, which is now called AliveGlobal.com, and they have a Prayer Center in Northern Virginia 12.2mi from the White House. They receive prayer requests from all over the world. They are in the intercession business, and offer training on it.

There is a book about her experience when she suffered from a 2 story fall in college, paralyzing her, and how she was actually dying. The book talks of how God spoke to her, and she spoke to only 4 people (the well known "God Smuggler" Brother Andrew was one of them) predicting to them the day and time of day of her own miraculous healing, and how God told her He was going to use her in Asia...it's called "Miracle In The Mirror" by Mark Buntain. The book is on Amazon. There are photos and hospital documents in the book, and for all intents and purposes, it looks to me like a documented, verified miracle for even the skeptical, and I have certainly never heard of Brother Andrew refuting this (He is from Open Doors ministry).

Nita says the following regarding Prayer and intercession (which is what they do daily and so is logically quite experienced at it). She was referring to a case where someone had a long term cancer, and died from it. She was talking about how to pray for someone in a situation like that.

You may ask, “during such long months of difficult experience, what are prayer
partners and intercessors supposed to do?”

We must not turn intercession into mere sympathy with our fellow human beings, but
instead further channel their contact with God. In prayer and intercession, you bring the
person or the circumstance that impinges on you before God, until you are moved by
God’s attitude towards that person or circumstance. Intercession means filling up “that
which is lacking in the afflictions of Christ.” Perhaps this explains why there are so few
interested in intercession……..
First, let us briefly consider what intercession requires.
Never put yourself in his / her place and view reality from their perspective. Try to see the situation from God’s perspective. If we do not maintain our reality check with God, we will surely be crushed.
Also, when you have too much information about a painful situation, you may not be able to pray as you ought.
Always try to maintain clear lines of communication regarding your concern with the reality you receive from God.
“Men ought always to pray and not faint” Luke 18:1
Frequently we find, establishing a definite contact with God is somehow replaced by
constant activity. At times, it may be easier to accomplish items that can be tabulated
than to simply pray.
• While interceding, you will discover there are no snares to hamper your relationship
with God.
• While interceding, maintain a completely open channel of communication with God.
• While interceding, do not limit God’s touch on that special person or circumstance
only, but also in the many lives surrounding that person or circumstance.
• While interceding, hold fast to the reality of Redemption, allowing God to do His
creative work.
Today as intercessors, may we be prepared to keep the rules and not quit as
we keep a steady stride, running our race with purpose to the glorious finish line.
While I agree totally with attempting to see things from God's perspective, I have often wondered about the part that says
Never put yourself in his / her place and view reality from their perspective.
The reason I wonder about that particular part is because didn't God Himself become a man, and see it from our perspective, being tried in every way, yet without sin?

When a tragedy occurs to you, who do you benefit more from? Someone who says "prayers sent", or someone who has already gone through a similar experience, and sends prayer? I can understand the effectiveness of the prayer of someone who is striving to see it from God's perspective, but if they have no experience whatsoever in the realm of tragedies...well it just seems to me like it would help if you can understand what it is like to have gone through a trajedy like that. We are able to comfort/console better when we actually have an inkling of what the person in need is going through. It just seems like good common sense to me.

So if you are a person, who... let's pretend... you used to be a drug addict, but had been saved from that. And it seems logical that you could better understand how to pray for another who was addicted to drugs, than a person who never/ever used drugs. (maybe my thinking is incorrect here...)

Hope I'm not confusing anyone, but you know we often tell ourselves, that one of the reasons trajedy occurs, is so we can emphathize and fruitfully pray for another who may be going through a similar circumstance (at least I think we do...).

But I do understand, that for some people, having too much information about a tragedy, or trial, can make you doubt anything can actually be done about it, and possibly make your prayer less effective, and cause us to pray, not really expecting an answer or solution.

Nita also says this to the nagging question "Why does God heal some, and not others?"
The answer for me lies in God's purpose not only for the individual but for his purpose in the world. I believe God healed me because he had a work for me to do that would be accomplished by my being healed. Indeed, God healed me dramatically in an instant. I have told my story over and over all around the world. Many people have had their own faith deepened when they have heard what God did for me. Because of my testimony people know that God heals.
I have known people whom God has not healed. In fact, I have prayed for people but they were not healed. Sometimes I have a sense as to why. Perhaps the person has unforgiveness in their heart or bitterness from some experience. Sometimes they really do not believe God can heal. The Bible is clear that faith is believing God and that he does what he says he will do. There are some times I have not known at all why someone was not healed. In those cases, I have to accept that God is sovereign.
One of the most encouraging things anyone who is praying for healing for themselves or someone else can do is look up the scriptures in the Bible on healing. The gospel of Mark will really build one's faith when they read what Jesus Christ did as he went from place to place.
As you read the scriptures, ask the Holy Spirit to teach you what they mean. Expect God to speak to you through the scriptures, to open your spiritual insight and draw you into God's understanding about what you are praying about.

I would like to share some rather long stories about my own experiences with intercession at my work place, which I believe you will find to be helpful. I have already typed them out, and so it is easy for me to Cut-n-paste them, but I do not want to be a "thread hog", but you did say "anything", and so perhaps this is what "anything" looks like. So I will just share a few true stories (which happened to me), and if you are bored with the long stories, I apologize for giving too much detail.

But It's up to you Princess, just how serious are you about being a warrior? Are you prepared to back up your intercessory prayer with action? Because in order to be a warrior, you will need to start caring for other people's salvation & ugly...nitty gritty details of peoples lives.

The subject of Intercession is at the top of my list, and I feel that we should be intercessors in our places of work. Or work should not just be a "job" to us, but is our "ministry".
