Reps: 100,726,185,435,028,496 (power: 100,726,185,435,031) | | | The Eastern Orthodox strict fast is no meat, fish, or animal products (milk, eggs, etc.). However, fish does NOT mean crustaceans so shrimp, scallops and lobster are permissible.
Annnnnnd, no, I dont know about bugs!
It could be that John and his disciples follows something similar. While lamb might not have been acceptable, bugs might have been. |

Of them you may eat: the locust of any kind, the bald locust of any kind, the cricket of any kind, and the grasshopper of any kind. But all other winged insects that have four feet are detestable to you.

[Since all insects have six feet, not four, does that mean that all insects are permissible to eat?  ]

Not a lot of food in the desert.
He did not have a handy 22 rifle to shoot any rabbits, squirrels, etc.
Locust could be picked by hand.
Therefore he ate locust.

I don't think "detestable" is a good word, but he was following a regimen more akin to a fast from creature comforts & comfort foods.
