Annnnnnd, no, I dont know about bugs!
It could be that John and his disciples follows something similar. While lamb might not have been acceptable, bugs might have been. |

But all other winged insects that have four feet are detestable to you.

[Since all insects have six feet, not four, does that mean that all insects are permissible to eat? ]

He did not have a handy 22 rifle to shoot any rabbits, squirrels, etc.
Locust could be picked by hand.

I don't think "detestable" is a good word, but he was following a regimen more akin to a fast from creature comforts & comfort foods.
