Reps: 170,687,176,442,555,872 (power: 170,687,176,442,558) | | | Sick & Tired of Whanganui Stewart Murray Wilson has to go somewhere. In case you don't know, he's the "Beast of Blenheim" and he's being let out of prison to reside on prison grounds under 24-hour watch in a secure location. He has to go somewhere. The law is the law and he's served his sentence. He's going to have the highest amount of restrictions placed on him possible and he's going to be watched by permanently placed guards. The whole situation is ridiculous and out of hand. Whanganui is dodging it's responsibilities as a district of New Zealand.
As far as I'm concerned, Stewart Wilson has been placed there for a reason and Whanganui is displaying a high level of immaturity by refusing to fulfill it's obligation in housing this offender. New Zealand is not divided into states and therefore Whanganui has no right to continue to deny what is in the best interests of all New Zealanders, which is having him confined in a safe and secure environment under watchful eye of the law. He will no doubt be electronically as well as physically monitored for the rest of his life.
If Whanganui refuses to house Stewart Wilson, they are basically passing the buck onto some other area of New Zealand. Some other area that is not as suitable a location for housing him. Therefore they are increasing the problem for New Zealand. Whanganui should let the system get on with it and stop acting as though it is an isolated state of NZ. If all fails, I wouldn't mind of Wilson had to live down the road from me in Auckland provided all the proper protections are in place. However, that would be detrimental both for his victims and for his secure care. I'm really sick and tired of hearing Whanganui waste our time and money trying to block something that is a responsibility of all New Zealanders. |

It has the right resources and non of his victims live there. Although I'm sure we'd all love to see him sent to Waikikamukau, I don't think the resources are available to make that workable .
I read this article ( Wilson arrives at Whanganui Prison - National - NZ Herald News) and was left wondering if the journalist was really schizophrenic about the Whanganui/Wanganui debate. Did the editor even read it?

I'm going to put money on the fact that you'd be just as upset if the department of corrections wanted to drop this animal in your town

I think you missed the bit about having proper controls in place. As Blessed01 said "If all fails, I wouldn't mind of Wilson had to live down the road from me in Auckland provided all the proper protections are in place." Strange as it may seem, not every town in NZ has a prison .

And several years ago there was a fellow in my church...lovely bloke...married a couple of kids, one boy was disabled. He was accused of interfering with on of his young relatives...of course it wasn't true, you know what 13 yr old girls are like..liars !! Well to cut a long story short, he got divorced and then married a lovely widow neighbour of ours...while still being a fine member of our church...mmmm, he then molested an 8 yr old....I think he got a couple of years for that, and everyone began to realise his halo had slipped and he really was a scumbag...needless to say the widow divorced him quick smart.....!!!

And yet he has to go somewhere. Better to do it now when they can legally limit what he can do rather than wait for his sentence to be up and have no say where he goes.
