Reps: 2,098,942,934,473,862,656 (power: 2,098,942,934,473,926) | | | Cardinal Dolan likes Ryan and his budget ideas Go HERE. Cardinal Dolan acknowledged that Ryan has his critics, but commended the congressman for his efforts to tackle the federal budget deficit. He recalled exchanges they have had about the Ryan budget plan (exchanges that National Review Online first reported on last May) and paraphrased Ryan: He did say, “I bristle when any Catholic politician who dares to suggest that we need to get our fiscal house in order, that we need to balance the budget, that we need to show some frugality and restraint, is automatically branded as anti-poor. . . . I am passionate about the poor. That, too, comes from my religious conviction. . . . Nobody suffers more from runaway deficits and a poor economy than the poor. And the best way we can help the poor is by getting our financial house in order — meaning jobs will go up, employment will go up, and they’ll be helped.” Cardinal Dolan summed up his end of the exchange, saying: “And I wrote back and said, ‘You’ve got a good point.’ ‘And,’ I said, ‘let me applaud some of the things you are doing, namely your call for financial accountability and restraint and a balanced budget . . . and . . . let me also applaud your obvious solicitude for the poor.”

No one who wants to eliminate all capital gains taxes (thereby ending ALL taxation for the very wealthy, many of whom realize most if not all their income from investments) while gutting Medicare, Social Security, student loans, Pell Grants, unemployment insurance, etc. can say they care about the poor.
If they're honest, they can't even say they're serious about reducing the deficit.
When you criticize him for being diplomatic to the President at the Al Smith dinner, remember how many times he had to kiss the Blarney Stone to muster up something positive to say about Ryan.

...even though his plan would have also cut the tax rates to a flat 10% up to $100,000 for joint filers or up to $50,000 for single filers, and left it at 25% for anything above those thresholds? Even though he wants to also eliminate the 'death tax' and all taxes on interest? Even though there are plenty of people like myself who either have invested in stock or work for an employee-owned company with stock-based ownership (and we are anything but wealthy)?
People want to moan and whine about the 'top percent' who make money off of capital gains, but what about ALL of the people outside of that 'top percent' who invest, or would like to invest, in companies and business? What are the taxes doing to provide ANY incentive or opportunity to those people and to the business available for public trade?
God forbid you would consider any solution that doesn't involve taxing the living daylights out of people who have more money than you, even if it includes measures that greatly simplify or reduce taxes for everyone and give small businesses some breathing room. When you criticize him for being diplomatic to the President at the Al Smith dinner, remember how he had to lie through his teeth to be nice in this interview.
Accusing the Cardinal/Archbishop/President of USCCB of lying, huh?

It sounds like she said he lies.

We actually have quite a good income, and we live in a low-cost area of the country. A few years ago our federal income taxes were $33K. I almost fainted at the time (it was the first year I'd gone back to work FT) but really, I am grateful to be able to pay the taxes we do.
After that, because of the recession, I started working 3/4 time and so our taxes have been a little smidgen less.
I don't think that the taxes we pay are unfair, and I agree with Warren Buffett that people in my bracket could pay a little bit more, and people in Romney's bracket could pay quite a bit more than they do.

Just follow the sign posts on the issues - to find out what is going on.
Liberal blogs and commentaries dont give the whole story. They twist things. I see it when i visit their blogs and research the issues.

Why is it - i wonder - those with higher incomes like democrats who supposedly cater to the poor [but in reality they make it impossible for them to move up the ladder of success] - and those who are in the lower income brackets like the republicans - who we are told dont cater to the poor but make the effort to succeed more obtainable..?

Reforms on welfare so ppl stuck in the poverty trap can go to school or training and get careers. Paid for child care so they can attend school.
Making policies that are less inclined to lawsuits on innocent parties - and the list goes on.

Reps: 2,098,942,934,473,862,656 (power: 2,098,942,934,473,926) | | Still, Ryan may have gone even further in his opposition to abortion last year when he co-sponsored the "Sanctity of Human Life Act" - also known as a "Personhood Amendment" - that sought to designate the start of human life at fertilization. The bill did not designate what exceptions, if any, would be allowed. While Ryan's views on abortion appear to be longstanding and deeply held, they have not played a central role in his congressional career. Neither Ryan's official website nor his campaign website include a section on social issues. An essay Ryan authored for The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, in 2010 ties his views on the definition of life to the issue of economic freedom, an issue he discusses much more frequently. "I write as an unswerving proponent of both free market choice and the natural right to life. It is unfortunate that 'life' and 'choice' were ever separated and viewed as alternatives. This is a false dilemma. Logically, each implicates the other," Ryan wrote. "I am deeply committed to capitalism, the 'system of natural liberty'... Free markets create unparalleled prosperity and have a moral basis in freedom and choice." Romney abortion view overrides Ryan in Akin response - Political Hotsheet - CBS News
